Parts of Speech

বাক্যে ব্যবহারের উপর ভিত্তি করে একই শব্দ বিভিন্ন parts of speech হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হতে পারে। যেমন: ‘Except’ এর ক্ষেত্রে -

Preposition: All the brethren were in Egypt except Arnab. (ব্যতিত)
এখানে except শব্দটি Arnab - noun এর পূর্বে বসে Sentence এর অন্য কোন Word এর সাথে সম্পর্ক স্থাপন করেছে বিধায় এখানে except preposition.

Verb: If we except Jafor, we may lose the game. (বাদ দেয়া)
এখানে except বাদ দেয়া অর্থে বাক্যের verb হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে।

Conjunction: I will not let you go except you bless my children.
এখানে except = unless = যদি না অর্থে বাক্যে conjunction হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে।

• Correct answer: Do not hanker after fame.

• Hanker after/ for something:
- English meaning: To have an earnest wish to own or enjoy.
- Bangla meaning: কোনোকিছুর জন্য অত্যন্ত লালায়িত হওয়া।

• প্রদত্ত sentence টিতে hanker এরপর after ব্যবহার হবে।

• Example sentence:
- Many people hanker after wealth but forget the importance of happiness.
- She has always hankered after fame and recognition.

Bereft of: 
English Meaning - Not having (something that is needed, wanted, or expected). 
Bangla Meaning -  বঞ্চিত হওয়া/বিছিন্ন হওয়া (বিমূর্ত কোনো কিছু থেকে)।

Example Sentences: 
- They appear to be completely bereft of new ideas.
- I am bereft of all expectations.

Complete Sentence - The abandoned house stood bereft of life, a silent witness to the passage of time.

For + period: a ''period'' is a duration of time - five minutes, two weeks, six years, a long time.
For means ''from the beginning of the period to the end of the period''.
Since + point: a ''point'' is a precise moment in time - 9 o'clock, 1st January, Monday.
Since means ''from a point in the past until now''.

• শূন্যস্থানে সঠিক উত্তর হবে - Frightened.
Complete sentence: Frightened by the loud noise, the baby started crying.
Bangla: উচ্চস্বরে শব্দে ভয় পেয়ে, শিশুটি কাঁদতে শুরু করল।

• এখানে baby হলো subject এবং এটি passive voice এ আছে।
- এখানে “by the loud noise” passive sense বোঝাচ্ছে।
- শিশুটি নিজে ভয় পায়নি, বরং loud noise এর কারণে ভয় পেয়েছে।
- তাই past participle ব্যবহার করতে হবে।
- “Frightened by …” → মানে “ভয় পেয়ে”।

বিকল্পগুলোর বিশ্লেষণ:

খ) Frightening:
- "Frightening" - ভয় ধরানো / ভীতিকর (Present participle).
- যদি "frightening" ব্যবহার করা হয়, অর্থ দাঁড়াবে: "লাউড শব্দ দ্বারা ভীতিকর হয়ে, শিশুটি কাঁদতে শুরু করল।"
- এটি অর্থের দিক থেকে ভুল।

গ) Having frightened:
- "Having frightened" মানে: "ভয় দেখানোর পর।"
- অর্থ দাঁড়াবে: "শব্দ ভয় দেখানোর পর, শিশুটি কাঁদতে শুরু করল।"
- কিন্তু এখানে শিশুটি ভয় পেয়ে কাঁদছে, ভয় দেখাচ্ছে না।

ঘ) Be frightened:
- "Be frightened" একটি base form, participle phrase হিসেবে ব্যবহার করা যায় না।
- ব্যাকরণগতভাবে ভুল।

• The dissimilar one is - Into.

Into – Preposition

Into is dissimilar because it is only a preposition, whereas the others can function as conjunctions.

Into - (preposition(al)) (১) (ভিতরের কোনো বিন্দুর দিকে গতি বা আভিমুখ্যসূচক) -এ: Come into the room. Throw it into the fire.

• Complete sentence: He was debarred from attending the annual meeting due to misconduct.
- Bangla meaning: অসদাচারণের কারণে তাকে বাৎসরিক সভায় অংশগ্রহণ থেকে বঞ্চিত করা হলো।

• Debar someone from (something/ doing something):
- English Meaning: To stop someone from doing something by law or by official agreement.
- Bangla Meaning: নিবারিত করা; বাইরে রাখা; আইনের সাহায্যে কাউকে কোনো অধিকার থেকে বঞ্চিত করা কিংবা কিছু করা থেকে বিরত রাখা।

• অর্থাৎ, কোনো কিছু থেকে নিবারিত করা; বাইরে রাখা অর্থে Debar এর সাথে appropriate preposition হিসেবে from বসে।

- Complete sentence: They have not opened the store yet.
- কোন কাজ পূর্বে শুরু হয়ে বর্তমানে চলছে বুঝালে Present Perfect Tense হয়।

• Just, Just now, Already, Recently, Yet, Ever, Fortnight, so far, up to now, up to the present, থাকলে Sentence টি Present Perfect Tense হয়।
- "Yet" দিয়ে Point of time উল্লেখ করা হয়েছে।
- Point of time উল্লেখ থাকায় বুঝা যায় বাক্যটি Present Perfect Tense হবে।
- Structure: Subject + has/have + V3 + extension.
- Example sentence: My father has been transferred to Khulna recently.

• শূন্যস্থানে সঠিক উত্তর হবে - a.
- Complete sentence: He wants to be a Newton in science.

• সাধারণত কোন ব্যক্তির নাম Proper noun হয় এবং এর পূর্বে কোনো article বসে না।
- কিন্তু, কখনো কখনো a/an, 'one like' বা এর মত একজন অর্থে article হিসেবে Proper noun এর পূর্বে a/an বসে।

এখানে “Newton” দ্বারা বোঝানো হয়েছে Isaac Newton–এর মতো একজন মহান বিজ্ঞানী হওয়া।

যখন কোনো বিখ্যাত ব্যক্তির নামের আগে a/an বসে, তখন তার অর্থ হয় — তার মতো একজন।

- Here, 'barely' is an Adverb.

- The word "barely" modifies the adjective "fifteen", indicating the extent or degree to which she was fifteen (just reaching that age).

- English Meaning: by the smallest amount; only just:
- Bangla Meaning: (১) রিক্তভাবে; নামমাত্র; স্বল্প: barely furnished rooms. (২) নামমাত্র; সামান্য: We barely know him.

• The required answer is - The crying baby kept everyone awake.

• Participle:
- A participle is a verb that ends in -ing (present participle) or -ed, -d, -t, -en, -n (past participle).
- Participle may function as Adjectives, describing or modifying Nouns.
- Participle একই সাথে Verb ও Adjective এর কাজ করে।

• Participle মূলত তিন প্রকার:
1. Present Participle. Ex: The story is thrilling.
2. Past Participle. Ex: This is a book written by Charles Dickens.
3. Perfect Participle. Ex: Having gained the truth, keep the truth

• এখানে "crying baby" দ্বারা বোঝানো হয়েছে যে শিশুটি কান্না করছে বা কাঁদছে।
- "Crying" শব্দটি এসেছে verb "cry" থেকে, যা এখানে present participle রূপে ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে।
- "Crying" শব্দটি শিশুটির অবস্থা বা কেমন শিশু তা প্রকাশ করছে। অর্থাৎ, এটি noun "baby" কে বর্ণনা করছে।
- সুতরাং, "crying" শব্দটি এখানে verb হিসেবে নয়, adjective হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে।
-তাই, "crying" হলো একটি Present Participle, যা adjective হিসেবে noun "baby" কে modify করছে।

• উল্লিখিত বাকি অপশনগুলো,
ক) Reading books improves your knowledge.
- ভুল। কারণ: এখানে "Reading" একটি Gerund (verb + ing → noun) হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে।
- এটি subject হিসেবে কাজ করছে, adjective নয়।

খ) I am fond of painting.
- ভুল। কারণ: "painting" এখানে Gerund → preposition "of" এর object.
- Noun এর মতো ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে, adjective নয়।

গ) She enjoys swimming in the lake.
- ভুল। কারণ: "swimming" এখানে একটি Gerund, যা verb "enjoys" এর object.
- এটি কোনো noun কে modify করছে না।

Correct answer: a few dollars.
Complete sentence: Could you lend me a few dollars for coffee?
- যেহেতু 'dollar' countable noun তাই এর পূর্বে "a few"  বসবে এবং যেহেতু কিছু সংখ্যক নির্দেশ করছে তাই "dollars" হবে। 

• little, a little, a few, few এর ব্যবহার: 
- এগুলো হচ্ছে quantifier determiners.
- এগুলো দ্বারা কোনো কিছুর পরিমান, সংখ্যা এগুলোকে নির্দেশ করা হয়।
- Little, a little বসে uncountable noun এর ক্ষেত্রে,
- এবং a few, few বসে countable noun এর ক্ষেত্রে।
- Little এবং few, negative অর্থে ব্যবহৃত quantifier determiners,
- এগুলো নেতিবাচক অর্থে বসে, যার অর্থ "নেই বললেই চলে"

• While দ্বারা দুইটি বাক্যাংশ যুক্ত হলে - 
- While এর পূর্বে অংশ টি past indefinite এ হলে, এরপরের অংশে past continuous tense হয়। 
- while যুক্ত অংশটি Past continuous tense হলে অপরটি Past indefinite tense হয়।

- সুতরাং নিয়মানুযায়ী সঠিক উত্তর হবে - were fixing.
- Complete sentence: We painted the walls while the workers were fixing the roof.
- অন্য অপশনগুলোকে শূন্যস্থানে বসালে সেগুলো While এর নিয়ম অনুসরণ করে না বিধায় এগুলো ভুল।

Modal auxiliary verb -এর পর verb এর base form বসে। 
- May, might, can, could, should, will, would এইসব (Modal Auxiliary verbs) এরপর verb এর base form বসে।
- সুতরাং base form যুক্ত verb -live শুন্যস্থানে বসবে।
- তাই সঠিক উত্তর হবে live.

• Correct sentence: খ) You, Sarah, and I attended the seminar.

• Sequence of Pronoun অনুযায়ী,
 - কোনো বাক্যে একাধিক pronoun বসলে '231' নিয়মে অর্থাৎ, প্রথমে 'second person', তারপর 'third person' এবং শেষে 'first person' বসে।
- এক্ষেত্রে সবগুলোর subjective form বসবে এবং সেই সাথে verb এর plural form বসে।

- তবে দোষ বা অপরাধ স্বীকার করার ক্ষেত্রে, প্রথমে 1st person, তারপর 2nd person, তারপর 3rd person বসে।
- এক্ষেত্রে, এদের subjective form বসে এবং verb টি plural হয়।
- যেমন: I, you, and he committed a crime.
- সংক্ষেপে একে 123 এভাবেও মনে রাখা যায়।

• Note: প্রথমে 1st person, তারপর 3rd person, তারপর 2nd person, (132) বসে।
- তবে, প্রথম নিয়মটিই প্রচলিত নিয়ম।

• Along (preposition)
- English Meaning: from one part of a road, river, etc. to another; in the same direction as, or beside.
- Bangla Meaning: (১) কোনো কিছুর একপ্রান্ত থেকে আরেক প্রান্ত: (২) একই দিকে; এই পথে।

- অর্থাৎ, কোনো স্থানের দূরত্ব বরাবর পাশ দিয়ে/ধার দিয়ে (বরাবর)/একই দিকে বুঝাতে preposition হিসেবে Along ব্যবহৃত হয়।

অন্যদিকে,
ক) at → Refers to a specific point or location.
- যেমন: We'll meet you at the entrance.

খ) on → কোনো কিছুর উপরে স্থির বুঝাতে on ব্যবহৃত হয়।
- যেমন: Look at all the books on your desk!

ঘ) through → কোনো কিছুর ভেতর দিয়ে বা এক প্রান্ত থেকে অন্য প্রান্তে বুঝাতে through ব্যবহৃত হয়।
- যেমন: They walked through the tunnel/forest.
