ইংরেজি ভাষায় plural বানানোর স্বাভাবিক নিয়ম হলো noun এর শেষে s/es যোগ করা। কিন্তু কিছু বিদেশী শব্দ রয়েছে যেগুলোর plural স্বাভাবিক নিয়মে হয় না। সেগুলো মুখস্ত করে নেয়াই যুক্তিযুক্ত।
নিম্মে বিদেশী ভাষা থেকে আগত কিছু উল্লেখযোগ্য শব্দের plural form দেওয়া হলো।

article ‘a’ বসে consonant (Vowel পাঁচটি ছাড়া বাকিগুলো) যুক্ত শব্দের শুরুতে।
article ‘an’ বসে vowel (a, e, I, o, u) যুক্ত শব্দের শুরুতে।

Kindness (দয়ালু) শব্দটি একটি ‍abstract noun. সাধারণত ‍abstract noun এর পূর্বে কোন article বসে না। তবে ‍abstract noun কে নির্দিষ্ট করে বোঝালে তার পূর্বে the বসে।

যদি Adjective এর দ্বারা দুইয়ের মধ্যে তুলনা বুঝায় তাহলে তাকে comparative degree বলে। Positive degree থেকে comparative degree বানানোর কিছু প্রক্রিয়া:
1. সাধারণত এক syllable বিশিষ্ট positive degree এর শেষে er যোগ করলে comparative degree হয়ে যায়। যেমন: Tall থেকে Taller
2. দুই বা ততোধিক syllable বিশিষ্ট positive degree এর পূর্বে more/less যোগ করলে comparative degree হয়ে যায়।
যেমন: Difficult থেকে more Difficult/ less Difficult
3. কিছু positive এর comparative নিয়ম ছাড়াই হয়।
যেমন: bad থেকে worse, Good থেকে better ইত্যাদি।
উপরোল্লেখিত difficult শব্দটি একাধিক syllable বিশিষ্ট হওয়ায় এর comparative degree বানাতে হবে তার পূর্বে more যুক্ত করে। অর্থাৎ এর comparative degree হলো more difficult.
বিঃদ্রঃ অর্থের আধিক্য বুঝানোর জন্য positive degree এর শুরুতে very এবং comparative degree এর পূর্বে much/very much বসানো যায়।
সুতরাং উপরোল্লেখিত ‍নিয়মানুসারে সঠিক উত্তর much more difficult.
Difficultier উত্তর না হবার কারণ হলো একাধিক syllable বিশিষ্ট শব্দকে er যুক্ত করে comparative বানানো যায় না।

bed, school, college, university, hospital ইত্যাদি শব্দগুলো যে উদ্দেশ্যে নির্মিত হয়েছে সেই উদ্দেশ্যে ব্যবহৃত হলে এদের পূর্বে ‍article বসে না। তবে অন্য উদ্দেশ্যে ব্যবহৃত হলে তাদের পূর্বে ‍article বসে।

Superlative degree এর পূ্র্বে সর্বদা ‍article ‘the’ বসাতে হয়।
উপরোল্লেখিত উদাহরণের প্রত্যেকটিতে খেয়াল করলে দেখা যায় এখানে মূলত কোন শব্দটা সঠিক superlative সেটি বুঝানো উদ্দেশ্য।

Late (পরবর্তী অংশ) - latter - last
Late (পরবর্তী সময়কাল) - later - latest

1. চিরন্তন সত্য বা (Universal truth) বুঝাতে;

2. অভ্যাসগত কর্ম বা (Habitual fact) বুঝাতে;

প্রথম শূণ্যস্থানের শব্দটির প্রথম অক্ষরটি যদিও consonant. তথাপি এর শুরুতে ‍a না বসে an বসবে। কারণ hour শব্দটিতে থাকা consonant ‘h’ এর উচ্চারণ হয় না।

Relative Pronoun:

কিন্তু এটি মূলত একটি ‍simple sentence. Compound হওয়ার জন্য শর্ত হলো ‍and দুইটি independent clasue কে যুক্ত করবে। অথচ বাক্যে and দুইটি শব্দকে যুক্ত করেছে।

সাধারণত ‍adjective এর শুরুতে article বসে না। তবে যদি শুধু adjective এর শুরুতে ‍article ‘the’ বসানো হয় তাহলে তা plural common noun এ পরিণত হয়।
