Parts of Speech

Determiners are words such as the, my, this, some which are used before nouns.
Determiners include the following common types:
Articles: a, an, the
Demonstratives: this, that, these, those
Possessives: my, your, his, her etc.
Quantifiers: some, many, few, one, two etc.

- এই ধরনের Adverb যে গুলো ক্রিয়া সম্পন্ন হওয়ার সময় বুঝায়। এটি সাধারণত When কখন দিয়ে প্রশ্ন করলে উত্তর দেয়।
- Example: Now, then, before, since, ago, already, once, twice, thrice, again, soon, late, afterwards, yesterday, today, tomorrow, daily. early, formerly, frequently, presently, immediately, instantly.
- Example Sentence: They arrived yesterday at the station.

• Adverb of frequency:
- যে Adverb কোন কিছু করার বা কতো সময় পরপর হয় তা বোঝায় তাকে Adverb of frequency বলে।

• No sooner had, Hardly had, Scarcely had এবং As soon as সবগুলোই 'করতে না করতেই/ হতে না হতেই' অর্থে ব্যবহার করা হয়।

• নিয়মনুযায়ী, 
- No sooner had থাকলে পরের অংশে than (not then) ব্যবহার করা হয়।
Hardly had থাকলে পরের অংশে when (not than) ব্যবহার করা হয়;
Scarcely had থাকলে পরের অংশে when (not than) ব্যবহার করা হয়;
As soon as থাকলে পরের অংশে শুধু কমা (,) ব্যবহার করা হয়। 
- No sooner had এরপর 1st clause এর subject বসে।
- Verb এর past participle + than বসে।
- 2nd clause এর subject বসে।
- Verb এর past form করতে হবে।

• The plural form of 'Syllabus'- Syllabuses.

• Syllabus (Singular noun): 
- English Meaning: (a plan showing) the subjects or books to be studied in a particular course, especially a course that leads to an exam. 
- Bangla Meaning: পাঠক্রমের রূপরেখা বা সংক্ষিপ্তসার; পাঠ্যসূচি।

- Here, the underlined word is a Gerund.

- সাধারণত Preposition + possessive/objective of noun or pronoun -এর পরে Gerund বসে।
- এখানে Preposition 'on' এবং এর পরে possessive form 'your' আছে, তাই এখানে verb+ing (going) হলো gerund.

• Gerund:
- Verb -এর সাথে ing যোগ হয়ে যদি noun -এর কাজ করে অর্থাৎ, একই সাথে Verb ও noun -এর কাজ করে, তখন তাকে Gerund বলে।
- সহজে → Gerund = Verb + ing = noun = Verb + noun -এর কাজ করে।
- Gerunds don’t describe action—they act as nouns.

অন্যদিকে,
• Present participle:
- Verb -এর সাথে ing যোগ হয়ে যদি adjective -এর কাজ করে অর্থাৎ, একই সাথে Verb ও adjective -এর কাজ করে, তাহলে তাকে present participle বলে।
- সহজ ভাষায় → present participle হলো Verb + ing = adjective = Verb + adjective কাজ করে।
- Present participle দ্বারা চলমান sense বোঝায়।
- যেমন:
- He kept me waiting.
- A rolling Stone gathers no moss.

• Give in (to somebody) (phrasal verb)
- English Meaning: to finally agree to something that someone wants after first refusing.
- Bangla Meaning: আত্মসমর্পণ করা; নতি বা বশ্যতা স্বীকার করা।

- যেমন: I will blame you unless you apologize.

• Because (conjunction)
- সে-কারণে; কেননা; যেহেতু ইত্যাদি অর্থে clause -এর পূর্বে because ব্যবহৃত হয়।
- যেমন: I couldn’t attend the meeting because I was ill.

• If (conjunction) 
- যদি অর্থে শর্তযুক্ত অংশে (introduces a condition) 'If' ব্যবহৃত হয়।
- যেমন: If you want to go, I will accompany you.

• Colt: [masculine gender]
Meaning: অশ্বশাবক।
- এর feminine gender হবে Filly.

• Hart: [masculine gender]
Meaning: পুরুষ হরিণ।
- এর feminine gender হবে Roe.

People with pale complexions should avoid wearing light colours. Here, 'light' is -adjective.
- এখানে ‘colours’ হলো noun.
- ‘light’ শব্দটি ‘colours’ কে describe করছে, অর্থাৎ রঙের intensity বা shade বোঝাচ্ছে।

• One of এর ব্যবহার: 
- One of এর পরে noun plural হয় ও verb singular হয়।
- Structure: one of + plural noun + singular verb

তাই নিয়মানুযায়ী সঠিক বাক্যটি হবে- One of my friends is sick

• Friendly [Adjective]:
- English meaning: Behaving in a pleasant, kind way towards someone.
- Bangla meaning: বন্ধুত্বপূর্ণ; বন্ধুজনোচিত; বন্ধুভাবাপন্ন; সহৃদয়; মিত্রোচিত; বন্ধুসুলভ; সানুরাগ; প্রীতিপূর্ণ

• Noun + ly = adjective, Adjective + ly = Adverb.
- Friend শব্দটি Noun. এর সাথে ly যুক্ত হয়ে adjective গঠন করছে।

• সাধারণত Noun + ly = Adjective হয়। Example:

- Motherly,

• Article:
- Article মূলত Noun, Pronoun এর আগে বসে তাদের সংখ্যা এবং নির্দিষ্টতা, অনির্দিষ্টতাকে বুঝায়।

• Article কে প্রধানত ২ ভাগে ভাগ করা যায়।
1. Indefinite Articles: A, An.
2. Definite Articles: The.

• article ‘a’ বসে consonant (Vowel পাঁচটি ছাড়া বাকিগুলো) যুক্ত শব্দের শুরুতে।
• article ‘an’ বসে vowel (a, e, I, o, u) যুক্ত শব্দের শুরুতে।

• Note:
- ‘a ও ‍an’ বসানোর ক্ষেত্রে প্রথম শব্দের উচ্চারণই মুখ্য।
- অর্থাৎ প্রথম উচ্চারণটি যদি vowel এর হয়। তাহলে an হবে।
- আর যদি প্রথম উচ্চারণটি consonant এর হয় তাহলে a হবে।

• Article এর নিয়মানুযায়ী,
- O দ্বারা শুরু সকল শব্দের পূর্বে ‍an বসবে।
- 'O' vowel এর উচ্চারণ যদি (wa) ওয়া এর মত হয় তবে এর পূর্বে article 'a' বসে।
- যেমন: A one(ওয়ান), a one-taka note, a one-eyed deer.

• তাই নিয়মানুযায়ী সঠিক উত্তর হবে - a.

Correct Answer: খ) Personal Pronoun.

The sentence: The teacher gave the students their assignments. They had to submit them by Friday.
বাংলা অনুবাদ: শিক্ষক ছাত্রদের তাদের অ্যাসাইনমেন্ট দিলেন। তাদেরকে শুক্রবারের মধ্যে জমা দিতে হবে।

• Personal Pronoun: যে সর্বনাম (Pronoun) দ্বারা কোনো নির্দিষ্ট ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুকে বোঝানো হয়, তাকে Personal Pronoun বলে।
- এখানে They শব্দটি নির্দিষ্টভাবে "the students" (ছাত্রদের) কে নির্দেশ করছে। যেহেতু এটি একটি নির্দিষ্ট দলকে বোঝাচ্ছে, তাই এটি একটি Personal Pronoun।
Personal Pronoun-এর আরও উদাহরণ: I, me, you, he, him, she, her, it, we, us, they, them.
 
অন্য অপশনগুলো:
ক) Relative Pronoun → যেমন- who, which, that। এগুলো দুটি clause (বাক্যাংশ) যুক্ত করে। এখানে "They" কোনো clause যুক্ত করছে না।
খ) Demonstrative Pronoun → যেমন- this, that, these, those। এগুলো কোনো বস্তুকে দেখিয়ে বোঝায়। "They" কোনো বস্তুকে দেখিয়ে বোঝাচ্ছে না।
ঘ) Distributive Pronoun → যেমন- each, either, neither। এগুলো একই জাতীয় একাধিক ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুকে পৃথকভাবে বোঝায়। "They" সমগ্র দলকে একসাথে বোঝাচ্ছে, পৃথকভাবে নয়।

Noun
- Noun is a naming word. 
- গণনার ভিত্তিতে Noun দুই রকম হতে পারে,  Countable & Uncountable. 
- যে Noun গুলোকে আমরা গণনা করতে পারি, সেগুলো হয়  singular অথবা  plural হতে পারে। যেমন: Book, Books, Banana, Bananas, Tree, Trees. ইত্যাদি। 
- অপর দিকে, Uncountable noun সবসময় singular হয় । যেমন: Milk, Water, Sugar, ইত্যাদি। অর্থাৎ এগুলোকে গণনা করা যায় না তবে , পরিমাপ করা যায়। 
আরো কিছু উদাহরণ: 
I've got a book, but she's got two books.
There's some bread and cheese on the table.

How to use them
- Countable noun & Uncountable noun দুটোর সাথেই Some, determiner টা  বসানো যায়। 
- Countable noun যদি singular হয় তার পূর্বে বসে a অথবা an. 
- Countable noun যদি Plural হয় এবং বাক্যটি Affirmative বা হ্যাঁ বাচক হয়, তবে তার পূর্বে Some বসবে। 
- তবে, Countable noun যদি Plural হয় এবং বাক্যটি  Negative বা না বোধক হয় তবে তার পূর্বে সাধারণত Any বসবে। 
উদাহরণ: There are some sandwiches but there aren't any cakes. Are there any grapes?

সুতরাং, সঠিক উত্তর হবে, I haven't got any oranges.

Colony (noun)
(১) উপনিবেশে বহিরাগত ব্যক্তিদের দ্বারা বসতি স্থাপনের উদ্দেশ্যে অধিকৃত ও তাদের নিয়ন্ত্রণকারী দেশ।
(২) এক জায়গায় বসবাসকারী একই দেশের বহিরাগত ব্যক্তিবর্গ: the American colony in Paris.
(৩) (জীববিদ্যা) একত্র বসবাসকারী বা বেড়ে-ওঠা প্রাণিদল বা তরুশ্রেণি।

- English meaning: not brave; not having the courage to do things that other people do not think are especially difficult.
- Bangla meaning: ভীরু, কাপুরুষোচিত, ভয়প্রবণ।

• Cowardly (adverb) [old use]
- English Meaning: in a way that shows someone is not at all brave and is too eager to avoid danger, difficulty, or pain:
- Bangla Meaning:  (১) ভীরু স্বভাবের। (২) কাপুরুষোচিত।

- যেমন: We will not retreat or act cowardly.
- অর্থাৎ, এটি যখন কোনো verb-কে modify করে তখন adverb হিসেবে কাজ করে।

carry on অর্থ চালিয়ে যাওয়া
carry through অর্থ সাহায্য করা 
carry away অর্থ আত্ন সংযম হারানোর কারণ হইয়া
carry out অর্থ পালন করা

• Subject-Verb Agreement অনুযায়ী,
- Either ...... or, Neither….nor, Not only….but also দ্বারা যুক্ত একাধিক subject -এর ক্ষেত্রে verb টি তার নিকটতম subject অনুসারে বসে।
- অর্থাৎ, assertive sentence -এ or, nor, but also -এর পরে singular subject থাকলে singular verb এবং plural subject থাকলে plural verb বসবে।

- যেমন: Neither the boys nor their coach has been informed about the change.
- এখানে যেহেতু, শেষের অংশে 'their coach' – singular noun, তাই singular verb 'has been informed' (passive) হবে।

- Neither the salesmen nor the marketing manager is in favour of the system.

• [Either/neither] + noun + [or/nor] + plural noun + plural verb.
- Neither Rony nor his friends are going to the beach today.

• Complete sentence: The teacher recommended that each student spend more time for reading.

• Present Subjunctive:
- চাওয়া বা ইচ্ছা প্রকাশ করতে sub-ordinate clause হিসেবে ব্যবহার করা হয়।
- এ verb এর Base form ব্যবহারের রীতিই হলো Present Subjunctive.
- Structure: Subject + verb (any tense) + that + subject + verb এর base form + extension.
- সাধারণত advise, necessary, ask, command, recommend, demand, urge, propose, suggest, insist, prefer, request, require, ইত্যাদি verb গুলো ব্যবহৃত হলে এই নিয়ম প্রযোজ্য হবে।
- এক্ষেত্রে that যুক্ত subordinate clause এ সর্বদাই verb এর Base form হবে এবং Negative এর ক্ষেত্রে base form এর পূর্বে শুধু not বসবে।
- be verb থাকলে শুধু 'be' বসবে।

- কোন দক্ষতা বা Expertise বোঝাতে Adjective+ at ব্যবহৃত হয়। যেমন: সে অঙ্কে ভাল, এটা ইংরেজিতে হবে, He is good at Math. 

- অতএব সঠিক উত্তর হবে, She is amazing at the piano. 

Complete sentence: No sooner had I opened the door than the cat ran outside.

• No sooner had.....than হচ্ছে Correlative conjunction.
- No sooner had.....than যুক্ত বাক্য গঠনের নিয়মাবলী:
- No sooner had + subject + 1st clause (verb এর past participle) + than + subject + 2nd clause (verb এর past form).

• No sooner had, Hardly had, Scarcely had সবগুলোই "করতে না করতেই/ হতে না হতেই" এ রকম অর্থে ব্যবহৃত হয়

• নিয়মানুযায়ী,
- No sooner had থাকলে পরের অংশে than (then নয়) ব্যবহৃত হয়।
- Hardly had থাকলে পরের অংশে when ব্যবহৃত হয়।
- Scarcely had থাকলে পরের অংশে when (than নয়) ব্যবহৃত হয়।

• After receiving the promotion he had longed for, he spent the evening with his family, basking in their pride and happiness for his achievement.

• Bask in something:
- English Meaning: to take pleasure from something that makes you feel good.

• Appropriate preposition এর ক্ষেত্রে,
- Bask এর সাথে in বসে।
- তাই শূন্যস্থানে in বসালে বাক্যটি পরিপূর্ণ হয়।

In ব্যবহৃত হলে পানির মধ্যে থাকা বোঝায়

• Break-in [phrasal verb]
- English Meaning: to enter something without consent or by force; to interrupt when someone else is talking.
- Bangla Meaning: বলপূর্বক প্রবেশ করা; কথার মাঝখানে বাধা দিয়ে কথা বলা।

- সুতরাং, শূন্যস্থানে সঠিক উত্তর হবে -in.

• অন্যদিকে,
- break out (of) - পলায়ন করা।
- break out in (ক) আচ্ছাদিত হওয়া (খ) কথা বা আচরণে হঠাৎ উগ্রতা প্রদর্শন করা
- Break off - কথা বলতে বলতে থেমে যাওয়া।
- Break down - ভেঙ্গে পড়া। 
- Break into- কোন কিছু ভেঙ্গে বলপূর্বক প্রবেশ করা।

Book (noun, verb)
- Bangla Meaning: বই; পুস্তক; খাতা;  লিপিবদ্ধ করা; খাতায় তোলা।
