- এরপর Heathcliff নিরুদ্দেশ হয়ে যায়। যখন ফিরে আসে তখন সে অঢেল অর্থ বিত্তের মালিক। সে তার মালিকের বাড়ী Wuthering Heights কিনে নেয়। প্রেমিকা Catherine এর ননদের সাথে প্রেমের অভিনয় করে এবং সম্পত্তির লোভে তাকে বিয়েও করে। যদিও বিয়েটা এক সময় ভেঙ্গে যায়।
- এরপর Catherine মারা যায়। তার ভাই Hindley ও মারা যায়। কিন্তু তাদের সন্তানরা ধীরে ধীরে বড় হতে থাকে। Heathcliff এর সন্তানও এদের সাথে যোগ দেয়।  এভাবে কাহিনী এক প্রজন্ম থেকে পরের প্রজন্মের মাঝে এগিয়ে চলে।

• কাহিনির সূত্রপাতে দেখা যায় Lucie Manette একজন তরুণী যে বিস্ময়ে ফেটে পড়ে তার বাবা Doctor Alexandre Manette এর জীবিত থাকার কথা শুনে ।অত্যাচারি জমিদারের ষড়যন্ত্রে পড়ে নির্দোষ Doctor Manette জেল খাটতে বাধ্য হন।Doctor Manette এক ফরাসি ডাক্তার, যিনি ১৮ বছর ধরে বাসটিলে কারাগারে বন্দী ছিলেন। তিনি তাঁর মেয়ে লুসি মানেটের ভালোবাসা ও যত্নে পুনরায় স্বাভাবিক জীবনে ফিরে আসেন। জেলে থাকা অবস্থায়ই তিনি মুচির কাজ শিখেন। তার মেয়ে Lucie বড় হবার পর বাবার কথা জানতে পেরে বাবাকে প্যারিস থেকে লন্ডনে নিয়ে আসেন।

• লুসি এবং ডক্টর ম্যানেট ফ্রান্সে Charles Darnay কে  বাঁচানোর চেষ্টা করেন। ডক্টর ম্যানেট  তাঁর পুরনো কারাগারে থাকার অভিজ্ঞতাকে কাজে লাগিয়ে ডারনেইর মুক্তির জন্য চেষ্টা করেন কিন্তু ব্যর্থ হোন, বিপ্লবীরা Charles Darnay কে মৃত্যুদণ্ড দেয়া হয়। Charles Darnay কে মৃত্যুদণ্ডে দণ্ডিত করা হলে, সিডনি কার্টন নিজের ভালোবাসা প্রমাণ করতে তাঁর জন্য নিজের জীবন উৎসর্গ করেন। Darnay এর  মতো দেখতে হওয়ার কারণে, কার্টন তাঁর জায়গায় গিয়ে মৃত্যুকে আলিঙ্গন করেন।
