তবে before ও after থাকলে এটা সব সময় Follow করতে হয়্। আর অন্যান্যগুলোর ক্ষেত্রে আগে পরের ভাবার্থ যখন focused হয়, তখন এটা ব্যবহার করতে হয়। এখানে সে বলেছিল গতকাল আর জাফলং যাওয়ার ঘটনাটা গতকালের আগের দিনের। তাই এখানে Focused Meaning থাকায় Past Perfect Tense হবে। নতুবা বলা এবং জাফলং যাওয়া দুটি কাজই গতকাল হয়েছে- বুঝা যেতে পারে।
অন্যভাবে চিন্তা করলে Direct Narration এ যা Past Indefinite হয়, Indirect Narration এ সেটা Past Perfect হয়।
