Classification of Phrases

- প্রদত্ত Sentence টিতে 'to follow the plan' phrase টি Verb (chose) এর Object হিসেবে বসে noun এর কাজ করছে।

ক) Adjective phrase
- যে phrase গুলো sentence -এ adjective -এর মত কাজ করে, অর্থাৎ Noun/Pronoun -কে modify করে, সেই phrase গুলোকে Adjective phrase বলে।
- Noun/pronoun -এর পর যদি কোনো clause/phrase বসে ঐ noun/pronoun -কে modify করে তাহলে সেটি Adjective phrase হবে।
- The girl in the red dress is my sister.

গ) Adverbial Phrase
- যে phrase বাক্যে ব্যবহৃত হয় adverb -এর মত কাজ করে তাকে Adverbial Phrase বলে ৷
- সাধারণত verb -কে কখন (When), কোথায় (Where), কেন (Why) ও কীভাবে (How) দ্বারা প্রশ্ন করলে উত্তর হিসেবে যে phrase পাওয়া যায় সেটিই Adverbial phrase.
- The car is economical for its size.

ঘ) Prepositional Phrase
- যে phrase - preposition দিয়ে শুরু হয়, এবং preposition -এর কাজ করে, তাকে  Prepositional Phrase বলে।
- Prepositional Phrase গুলো তাদের object সহ প্রকৃত পক্ষে adverbial phrase এর কাজ করে।

• He is a man to rely on. (সে এমন একজন মানুষ যার উপর নির্ভর করা যায়।)
- Here, the underlined part is An adjective Phrase.

- Here, "to rely on" describes the noun "man" — it tells us what kind of man he is (a man that one can rely on).
- অর্থাৎ, এখানে underlined phrase টি ‘man’- noun টিকে Modify করার কারণে এটি Adjective phrase.

• উল্লেখ্য যে, এখানে - 'To' হচ্ছে infinitive marker, Preposition নয়। তাই, Underlined Phrase টিকে Phrase preposition বলা যাবে না।

• Adjective phrase:
- যে phrase গুলো sentence -এ adjective -এর মত কাজ করে, অর্থাৎ, কোনো Noun/Pronoun -কে modify করে, সেই phrase গুলোকে Adjective phrase বলে।

- প্রশ্ন প্রদত্ত বাক্যে a (Determiner) + beautiful (adjective) + red (adjective) + dress (noun), তাই এটি noun phrase হবে।
- These words ("a", "beautiful", "red") describe or specify the noun 'dress'.
- পুরো phrase টি একসাথে 'wore' verb এর object হিসেবে কাজ করছে।

• Noun phrase:
- A noun phrase consists of a pronoun or noun and any associated modifiers, including adjectives, adjective phrases, adjective clauses, and other nouns in the possessive case.
- Noun phrase সাধারণত Noun এর কাজ করে এবং Noun এর জায়গায় বসে অথবা Noun phrase এর অর্থো কোনো একক Noun কে নির্দেশ করে।

Prepositional Phrase:

ii. Gerund phrase:
- Gerund phrase starts with a gerund.
- Gerund (verb + ing) দিয়ে শুরু হওয়া phrase কে gerund phrase বলে।
Example: The ringing of the phone during the prayers in the mosque disturbs me much.

ii. Infinitive phrase:
- It has an infinitive (to + the present form of the verb) and modifiers linked to the infinitive.
- Infinitive (to+verb) দিয়ে শুরু হওয়া phrase কে infinitive phrase বলে।
Example: I like to have a cup of tea in the morning.

- যেসব phrase সাধারণত interjection-এর কাজ করে তাদেরকে interjectional phrase বলে।
- অর্থাৎ, interjectional-এর মত এগুলো মনের আকস্মিক ভাব প্রকাশ করে।
- interjectional phrase চেনার উপায় হচ্ছে এই phrase- এর শেষে Note of exlamation (!) থাকে।

Other options:
ক) He tried heart and soul to pass the exam.
- এটি Adverbial Phrase কারণ, এটি বাক্যের verb "tried" কে modify করে। 
- সাধারণত verb -কে কখন (when), কোথায় (where), কেন (why) ও কীভাবে (how) দ্বারা প্রশ্ন করলে উত্তর হিসেবে যে phrase পাওয়া যায় সেটিই Adverbial phrase.

গ) The fox without a tail called a meeting.
- এটি Adjective Phrase কারণ এটি বাক্যের noun "The fox" কে modify করছে।

• Rahim is a man of humble origin. - Here, the underlined phrase is - prepositional phrase and adjective phrase.
- এই বাক্যে 'of humble origin' একই সাথে Prepositional Phrase ও Adjective Phrase এর কাজ করছে।

• Prepositional Phrase:
- যে Phrase – Preposition দিয়ে শুরু হয়, কিন্তু Adjective বা Adverb এর কাজ করে, তাকে Prepositional Phrase বলে।
- এখানে 'of humble origin' Preposition দিয়ে শুরু হয়ে Adjective এর কাজ করছে তাই এটি Prepositional Phrase.

• Adjective phrase:
- যে phrase গুলো sentence - এ adjective এর মত কাজ করে, অর্থ্যাৎ Noun এর অবস্থা, দোষ-গুণ ইত্যাদি প্রকাশ করে, সেই phrase গুলোকে Adjective Phrase বলে।

Noun phrase:
- A group of words in a sentence that together behaves as a noun.
- Noun phrase হলো সেইসব phrase, যেসব phrase দ্বারা noun-এর কাজ সম্পন্ন হয়।
- অধিকাংশ সময়ই, noun phrase মূলত noun বা pronoun এর কাজ করে।
- এছাড়া এরা কোন sentence এ verb এর Subject, Object বা Complement রূপে অথবা Preposition এর object রূপে ব্যবহৃত হয়।

ক) Adjective phrase:

খ) Adverbial Phrase:
- যে phrase বাক্যে ব্যবহৃত হয় adverb-এর মত কাজ করে তাকে Adverbial Phrase বলে ।
- সাধারণত verb-কে কখন (when), কোথায় (where), কেন (why) ও কীভাবে (how) দ্বারা প্রশ্ন করলে উত্তর হিসেবে যে phrase পাওয়া যায় সেটিই Adverbial phrase.
যেমন: Last week he received the mail.

ঘ) Verbal Phrase:
- যে phrase - verb-এর কাজ করে তাকে Verb Phrase বলে।
- যেমন: We looked for a smart boy.

• Noun phrase
- A noun phrase consists of a pronoun or noun and any associated modifiers, including adjectives, adjective phrases, adjective clauses and other nouns in the possessive case.
- অধিকাংশ সময়ই, Noun phrase  মূলত: একটি Noun বা Pronoun এর কাজ করে।
