Tense

Present indefinite tense ব্যবহারের কিছু ক্ষেত্র:
1. চিরন্তন সত্য বা (Universal truth) বুঝাতে;
The sun rises in the east .
2. অভ্যাসগত কর্ম বা (Habitual fact) বুঝাতে;
She goes to bed at ten o'clock everyday.
3. ভবিষ্যতে কোন কাজ হবে বুঝাতে অনেক সময় এ Tense হয় ।
Ramadan begins in the next month.
সুতরাং সঠিক উত্তর An action in the present time, habitual or eternal.

Ring [রিং] (verb transitive), (verb intransitive)

শব্দটির অর্থঃ
(১) ঘণ্টা বাজানো; ফোন বাজা।
(২) ধ্বনিত হওয়া।
(৩) ring (for somebody/something) সতর্কীকরণের উদ্দেশ্যে ঘণ্টা বাজানো।
(৪) আওয়াজ বের করা।
ring a bell (কথ্য) আবছা আবছা মনে পড়ানো।
ring the bell (কথ্য) কোনো কিছুতে সফল হওয়া।
(৫) ring (with something) প্রতিধ্বনিত করা/হওয়া।
(৬) স্মৃতিতে দীর্ঘস্থায়ী হওয়া: His last words still ring in my mind.
(৭) ring (with) ধ্বনি-প্রতিধ্বনিপূর্ণ।
(৮) ring somebody (up) ফোন করা।
(৯) (পরপর বেজে চলা ঘণ্টাধ্বনির ক্ষেত্রে) ঘণ্টা বাজিয়ে (সময়) ঘোষণা করা।
(১০) ঘণ্টা বাজিয়ে সংকেত ধ্বনি করা।
ring the curtain up/down (মঞ্চে) যবনিকা তোলা অথবা পতন-সংকেত ধ্বনি।
(১১) প্রচণ্ড ধ্বনি করা।
ring the changes (on) (গির্জার ঘণ্টার ক্ষেত্রে) বিভিন্ন নিয়মে ঘণ্টা বাজানো; (লাক্ষণিক) যথাসম্ভব স্বতন্ত্রভাবে করা অথবা রাখা।
(১২) ঘণ্টা বাজিয়ে শুভ সূচনা অথবা সমাপ্তি ঘোষণা করা।

• Complete sentence: Have you ever been to Europe?
- Bangla meaning: তুমি কি কখনো ইউরোপে গিয়েছো?

• Present perfect tense এর ক্ষেত্রে:
- ever, never, always, occasionally, often, several times ইত্যাদির সাথে Present perfect tense ব্যবহৃত হয়।

• We often use been to, instead of gone to, when we refer to completed visits to a place.
- অর্থাৎ, কোথাও গিয়ে ফিরে আসা অর্থে 'been to' (past participle of 'be') ব্যবহৃত হয়।
- অর্থাৎ, জানতে চাওয়া হয় কখনো যাওয়া হয়েছিল কিনা?
- এই ধরনের প্রশ্ন সাধারণত কারো life experience (ever in your life) সম্পর্কে করা হয় এবং মূল verb এর past participle “been + to” ব্যবহৃত হয়।

More examples:
- Have you ever been to Sylhet?
- Have you ever been to St. Martin's?

অন্যদিকে,
• Have you gone to Europe?” → Implies you are still in Europe or on the way there now.
- অর্থাৎ, কেউ কোথাও গিয়ে এখনো সেখানে অবস্থান করছে বুঝাতে 'gone to' ব্যবহৃত হয়।

Correct answer: Present perfect continuous tense.
- কোনো কাজ অতীতে শুরু হয়ে এখনো চলছে বোঝাতে এটি ব্যবহৃত হয়।

• যখন কোন verb-এর কাজ অতীত কালের কোন এক সময় হতে শুরু হয়ে বর্তমানেও বা এখনও চলছে বুঝালে verb-এর present perfect continuous tense হয়।
- কোনো কাজ অতীতে শুরু হয়ে এখনো চলছে বোঝাতে এটি ব্যবহৃত হয়।
- কোনো কাজ অতীতে শুরু হয়ে সম্প্রতি বা এইমাত্র শেষ হয়েছে এমন বোঝালেও এটি ব্যবহৃত হয়।
- The structure of the present perfect continuous tense is:
- Subject + has/have + been + present participle (verb + ing).

Correct answer: We can't trust him because he often tells lies.
- Sentence টিতে সময় নির্দেশক শব্দ "often" থাকায় Present Indefinite Tense এর নিয়ম অনুসারে এখানে verb হিসেবে 'tells' বসেছে।

• বাক্যে often, usually, always, every week ইত্যাদি শব্দ বসলে Present Indefinite tense হয়।
- এবং Subject 3rd person singular বিধায়, verb এর সাথে "s" বা "es" যোগ হবে।
- তাই Correct answer: We can't trust him because he often tells lies.

Other options:
ক) We can't trust him because he often told lies.
-  বাক্যে often, usually, always, every week ইত্যাদি শব্দ বসলে Present Indefinite tense হয়। তাই এখানে verb হিসেবে "told" এর ব্যবহার সঠিক নয়।

গ) We can't trust him because he will often tell lies.
- বাক্যে often, usually, always, every week ইত্যাদি শব্দ বসলে Present Indefinite tense হয়। তাই এখানে future tense এর ব্যবহার সঠিক নয়।

ঘ) We can't trust him because he often tell lies.
- বাক্যে often, usually, always, every week ইত্যাদি শব্দ বসলে Present Indefinite tense হয়।
- এবং Subject 3rd person singular বিধায়, verb এর সাথে "s" বা "es" যোগ হবে।

• Correct Answer: খ) has been reading.

- She has been reading in the library for two hours.
- তিনি লাইব্রেরীতে ২ ঘণ্টা ধরে পড়ছে।

• Present Perfect Continuous Tense:
- যে Tense দ্বারা কোন কাজ পূর্বে শুরু হয়ে বর্তমানে চলছে বুঝায় তাকে Present Perfect Continuous Tense বলে।
- Structure: Subject + have been/has been মূল verb + ing + Extension.

- Present Perfect Continuous Tense এর ক্ষেত্রে ব্যাপক সময় (Period of time) এর পূর্বে for এবং নির্দিষ্ট সময় (Point of time) এর পূর্বে since বসে।

ঘ ছাড়া সবগুলোতে a বসাতে ভুল হয়েছে।
Correct sentences:
I have a lot of work to do. (‘অনেক’ অর্থে শুদ্ধ Phrase হচ্ছে – a lot of / lots of
It is not so good a place. (so থাকলে adjective ও noun এর মাঝখানে a/an বসে।)
They made a fire to cook food.
He went for a rest.
(কিছু article আছে ব্রিটিশদের থেকে শ্রুত। তারা ব্যবহার করে, এ জন্য ব্যবহার করতে হয়। গ ও ঘ – তে এ রকম a ব্যবহার করতে হবে।)

Correct answer: will have.
Complete sentence: By the time next year, I will have finished my degree.

• অর্থাৎ, By the time দ্বারা যদি দুইটি clause যুক্ত থাকে তখন By the time-এর পরের clause টি present indefinite হয় এবং অন্য clause টি future indefinite/perfect/perfect continuous tense হয়।
- প্রশ্নে উল্লিখিত বাক্যে By the time এর পরের অংশটুকু যেহেতু present indefinite tense-এ আছে, তাই নিয়মানুযায়ী অন্য অংশে future indefinite/perfect/perfect continuous tense হবে।
- সুতরাং নিয়মানুযায়ী, শূন্যস্থানে "will have'হবে।

Other options:
ক) will
- Modal Auxiliary এর পরে Verb এর base form বসে। বাক্যে এখানে past participle form রয়েছে। তাই এখানে will এর ব্যবহার সঠিক নয়।

গ) will be
- will be এর পর verb এর সাথে "ing" যুক্ত হয়। বাক্যে এখানে past participle form রয়েছে। তাই এখানে will be এর ব্যবহার সঠিক নয়।

ঘ) will had
- Modal Auxiliary verb will এর সাথে কখনো past tense ব্যবহৃত হয় না। তাই এটি সঠিক নয়।

Correct answer: will have died.
Complete sentence: By the time the doctor arrives, the patient will have died.

• বাক্যে By the time, by, by then, by that time দ্বারা ভবিষ্যৎ কালের কোন কিছু ঘটবে বোঝালে verb-এর future perfect tense হয়।
- অর্থাৎ, By the time দ্বারা যদি দুইটি clause যুক্ত থাকে তখন By the time-এর পরের clause টি present indefinite tense হয় এবং অন্য clause টি future perfect tense হয়।

- প্রশ্নে উল্লিখিত বাক্যে By the time এর পরের অংশটুকু যেহেতু present indefinite tense -এ আছে,
- তাই নিয়মানুযায়ী অন্য অংশে future perfect হবে।
- সুতরাং নিয়মানুযায়ী, শূন্যস্থানে will have died হবে।

Complete sentence: He had played basketball in high school, but he focused on academics.

• বাক্যে দুটি clause -ই past tense -এ আছে।
- তাই নিয়মানুযায়ী পূর্বের কাজটি past perfect tense এবং পরের কাজটি past indefinite tense হবে।
- সঠিক বাক্যটি হবে He had played basketball in high school, but he focused on academics.
- অর্থাৎ, ফুটবল খেলার কাজটি আগে হয়েছিল এবং পরে পড়াশোনায় মননিবেশ করেছে।
- সুতরাং, সঠিক উত্তরটি হবে option 'খ'।

Correct answer: have.
- Complete sentence: We have not booked the tickets for the concert yet.
- Sentence এ "yet" থাকায় Present Perfect tense এর নিয়মানুসারে "have not" এর পর Verb এর Past Participle হয়েছে।

• Right form of verb অনুযায়ী,
- Sentence এ Just, just now, already, yet, ever, lately, recently ইত্যাদি থাকলে sentence টি present perfect tense হয়।
- Present perfect tense -এ have/has+ verb এর past participle হয়।
- Present perfect tense এর structure: Subject+ has/have + Verb এর past participle + object.

• Complete sentence: I will call you before the meeting starts.

• ​ভবিষ্যতকালের দুটি কাজ before দ্বারা যুক্ত হলে before এর পূর্বে future indefinite/perfect tense হয় এবং before এর পরে present indefinite tense হয়।
​- অর্থাৎ, যদি before দ্বারা যুক্ত প্রথম clauseটি future indefinite tense এ হয়, তবে পরের clause টিতে present indefinite tense হবে।
- যেমন: I will call you before the meeting starts.
​- প্রদত্ত বাক্যে before এর পূর্বে future indefinite আছে, তাই এর পরে present indefinite tense (starts) হবে।

​আবার,
- অতীতের ​দুইটি clause যদি before দ্বারা যুক্ত থাকে তাহলে before এর পূর্বের clause টিতে verb এর past perfect এবং পরের clause টিতে past indefinite tense হয়।
- যেমন: We had reached the school before the bell rang.

 Correct Answer: has been.
- She has been living in Japan for the last 3 years.
- বাক্যটি Present Perfect Continuous Tense এর হবার কারণে has been+মূল verb+ing যুক্ত হয়েছে।

• Present Perfect Continuous Tense:
- যে Tense দ্বারা কোন কাজ পূর্বে শুরু হয়ে বর্তমানে চলছে বুঝায় তাকে Present Perfect Continuous Tense বলে।
- Structure: Subject+ have been/has been মূল verb+ ing+ Extension.
- Present Perfect Continuous Tense এর ক্ষেত্রে ব্যাপক সময় (Period of time) এর পূর্বে for এবং নির্দিষ্ট সময় (Point of time) এর   পূর্বে since বসে।

Correct answer: which had been.
Complete sentence: An investigation was carried out by the auditor to find the financial discrepancies, which had been concealed for years.
- প্রশ্নে "investigation was carried out by the auditor" Past indefinite tense e আছে, সুতরাং অপর অংশটি টি Past Perfect tense - এ হবে। আবার যেহেতু গোপন করার কাজটি কারো দ্বারা করা হয়েছিলো তাই বাক্যটি Passive voice হবে এবং তাই had been+ Concealed হয়েছে।

• অতীত কালে দুটি কাজ সম্পূর্ণ হলে যে কাজটি আগে হয় সেটি past perfect tense হয় এবং যে কাজটি পরে হয় সেটি Past Indefinite tense হয়।
- অর্থাৎ Past Perfect Tense অতীতে সম্পন্ন হওয়া কোনো কাজ বা ঘটনা বোঝাতে ব্যবহৃত হয়, বিশেষ করে যখন তা অন্য কোনো ঘটনার পূর্বে ঘটেছিল।
• Past Perfect Tense এর গঠন: Subject + had + Past Participle (V3) + Extension.

Correct answer: is teaching.
Complete sentence: The teacher is teaching in the class at this moment.

• যে Tense দ্বারা বর্তমানে কোনো কাজ চলছে, ঘটছে বা নিকট ভবিষ্যতে চলবে এমন বোঝায়, তাকে Present Continuous Tense বা ঘটমান বর্তমান কাল বলে।
- বাক্যে now, at this moment, at this time. At present, still ইত্যাদি থাকলে বাক্যটি present continuous tense হয়।
- Subject + am/is/are + verb + ing + rest of the sentence.
- Example:
- They are playing football now.
 - He usually sleeps at this time, but today he is working at this time.
 - He is writing a new novel at present.
 - He is still waiting for his friend.

Correct answer: I went to Sri Lanka a few days ago.
- Sentence টিতে সময় নির্দেশক শব্দ "ago" Past Indefinite Tense এর নিয়ম অনুসারে এখানে verb হিসেবে 'went' বসেছে।

• Past Indefinite Tense:
- অতীত কালে কোন কাজ ঘটেছিল এবং তার ফল এখন আর বর্তমান নেই এরূপ বুঝালে verb এর Past Indefinite Tense বা Simple Past Tense হয়।
- যখন sentence এ yesterday, ago, last night, last week, last month, that day, as soon as ইত্যাদি সময় নির্দেশক শব্দ থাকে, তখন সাধারণত verb এর Simple Past form ব্যবহার করা হয়।

উল্লিখিত বাকি অপশনগুলো,
ক) I have gone to Sri Lanka a few days ago.
 - ভুল, Present Perfect কখনো নির্দিষ্ট অতীত সময় (yesterday, ago, last night, last week, last month, that day, as soon as)  এর সাথে ব্যবহার করা যায় না।

খ) I will go to Sri Lanka a few days ago.
- অতীত সময় নির্দেশক শব্দ (yesterday, ago, last night, last week, last month, that day, as soon as) এর সাথে Future Tense ব্যবহার করা যায় না।

গ) I go to Sri Lanka a few days ago.
- অতীত সময় নির্দেশক শব্দ (yesterday, ago, last night, last week, last month, that day, as soon as) এর সাথে Present tense এর ব্যবহার সঠিক নয়।

Correct answer: They will be hosting the event next Saturday.
- যখন ভবিষ্যতে কোনো কাজ চলতে থাকবে, এমন বোঝানো হয়, তখন এই Tense ব্যবহৃত হয়।

• Future Continuous Tense:
- ভবিষ্যৎকালে কোন কাজ চলতে থাকবে এরূপ বোঝালে Future continuous tense হয়।
- Structure: Subject + shall be/ will be + verb + ing + ext.

• Examples:
- He will not be attending classes tomorrow.
- My parents will be visiting us for the holidays

Other options:
ক)I will not give you a pen.
- Future Indefinite Tense.

খ) He has read various kinds of books.
- Present Perfect Tense.

গ) She will have cooked dinner by six o'clock.
- Future Perfect Tense.

Correct answer: She met him three years ago.
- Sentence টিতে সময় নির্দেশক শব্দ "ago" থাকায় Past Indefinite Tense এর নিয়ম অনুসারে এখানে verb হিসেবে 'met' বসেছে।

• Past Indefinite Tense
- Sentence টিতে সময় নির্দেশক শব্দ "ago" Past Indefinite Tense এর নিয়ম অনুসারে এখানে verb হিসেবে 'met' বসেছে।
- অতীত কালে কোন কাজ ঘটেছিল এবং তার ফল এখন আর বর্তমান নেই এরূপ বুঝালে verb এর Past Indefinite Tense বা Simple Past Tense হয়।
- যখন sentence এ yesterday, ago, last night, last week, last month, that day, as soon as ইত্যাদি সময় নির্দেশক শব্দ থাকে, তখন সাধারণত verb এর Simple Past form ব্যবহার করা হয়।

Other options:
ক) meet
- অতীত সময় (yesterday, ago, last night, last week, last month, that day, as soon as) ইত্যাদি সময় নির্দেশক শব্দ থাকে, তখন সাধারণত verb এর Simple Past form ব্যবহার করা হয়। তাই এটি সঠিক নয়।

গ) will meet
- অতীত সময় (yesterday, ago, last night, last week, last month, that day, as soon as) ইত্যাদি সময় নির্দেশক শব্দ থাকে, তখন সাধারণত verb এর Simple Past form ব্যবহার করা হয়। তাই এখানে future tense এর ব্যবহার সঠিক নয়।

ঘ) would meet
- অতীত সময় (yesterday, ago, last night, last week, last month, that day, as soon as) ইত্যাদি সময় নির্দেশক শব্দ থাকে, তখন সাধারণত verb এর Simple Past form ব্যবহার করা হয়। তাই এখানে past tense এর ব্যবহার সঠিক নয়।

◉ Complete Sentence: My bi-cycle will have been repaired by next Friday. 
- কোনো sentence এ By this time, By (time, month, year), Next (time, month, year) ইত্যাদি থাকলে, এর দ্বারা ভবিষ্যৎ কালে কোন কিছু ঘটবে এমন বুঝায়। তখন verb -এর future perfect tense হয়।
- প্রশ্নে উল্লিখিত বাক্যে 'by next Friday' থাকায়, এখানেও Future Perfect tense ব্যবহৃত হবে। 

Future Perfect tense: 
- Future perfect তখনই ব্যবহার করা হয় যখন আমরা future এ কোন একটা specific time এর আগে কাজটা শেষ হবে সেটা বোঝাতে চাই। এর জন্য সাধারণত 'by' preposition টা ব্যবহার করা হয়। যেমন: by tomorrow, by next week, by 2025 ইত্যাদি।

• Active Future Perfect এর structure হল:
Subject + will/shall + have + verb এর past participle form (V₃)
Example - She will have reached Dhaka by tonight.
(সে আজ রাতের মধ্যে ঢাকায় পৌঁছে যাবে।)

• Passive Future Perfect এর structure হল:
Subject + will/shall + have + been + verb এর past participle form (V₃)
Example - All the tickets will have been sold by evening.
(সন্ধ্যার মধ্যে সব টিকেট বিক্রি হয়ে যাবে।)
