Verb

Interest(v) অর্থ মনোযোগ আকর্ষণ করা।
- Intention(noun) অর্থ উদ্দেশ্য বা অভিপ্রায়,
- Intellect(noun) অর্থ বোধশক্তি এবং
- Interim(adj) অর্থ মধ্যকাল
- তবে interest অর্থ সুদ, আগ্রহ, স্বার্থ বোঝালে তা noun হবে।

• Complete sentence: It's high time we made some changes around here.

• It is time/ It is high time:
- It is time/ It is high time এরপর যদি subject থাকে তাহলে পরবর্তী verb টি past indefinite tense এ হয়।
- কোনো কিছু করার এখনই উপযুক্ত সময় অর্থে It is time/ It is high time ব্যবহৃত হয়।
- যেমন: It's high time we made some changes around here.

• তবে, It is time/It is high time এরপর যদি subject না থাকে তবে to + verb (Infinitive) হয়।
- যেমন: It's high time to make some changes.

• Participle:
- A participle is a verb that ends in -ing (present participle) or -ed, -d, -t, -en, -n (past participle).
- Participle may function as Adjectives, describing or modifying Nouns.
- Participle একই সাথে Verb ও Adjective এর কাজ করে।

• Participle মূলত তিন প্রকার:
1. Present Participle. Ex: The story is thrilling.
2. Past Participle. Ex: This is a book written by Charles Dickens.
3. Perfect Participle. Ex: Having gained the truth, keep the truth

• প্রদত্ত Sentence টিতে, moving train দ্বারা চলন্ত ট্রেন কে বুঝানো হয়েছে। সুতরাং এটি verb এর কাজ করেছে।
- আবার, ট্রেনটি কেমন অবস্থায় চলছে (চলন্ত অবস্থায়) তা বুঝাচ্ছে বলে moving হলো এখানে Adjective.
- সুতরাং moving শব্দটি একই সাথে verb ও Adjective এর কাজ করল।
- তাই moving শব্দটি এখানে Participle বা Present participle হিসেবে ব্যবহার হয়েছে।

Correct Answer: খ) The baby slept peacefully.

• Intransitive verb:
- যেসকল verb এর object বা কর্ম থাকে না তাকে Intransitive verb বলে।
- সাধারণত Intransitive verb এর পর adverb অথবা preposition ব্যবহৃত হয়।
- বাক্যে ব্যবহৃত Intransitive verb-কে কি (what?) বা কাকে (whom?) দ্বারা প্রশ্ন করলে কোনো উত্তর পাওয়া যায় না।
- বরং কখন (when?) বা কোথায় (where?) দ্বারা প্রশ্ন করলে উত্তর পাওয়া যায়।
- Intransitive verb যুক্ত sentence-এর সাধারণ Structure হচ্ছে: Subject + verb.

উল্লিখিত প্রশ্নের অপশন খ)The baby slept peacefully. এর “slept” verb-টির কোনো object নেই।
- কি (what?) বা কাকে (whom?) দিয়ে প্রশ্ন করলে কোনো উত্তর পাওয়া যায় না। 
- এখানে peacefully একটি adverb, এটি verb-এর কাজের ধরন বোঝাচ্ছে, কোনো object নয়। 
- অতএব verb-টির কোনো direct object নেই। তাই বাক্যটিতে ব্যবহৃত slept একটি Intransitive verb।
- সুতরাং, সঠিক উত্তর হলো: খ) The baby slept peacefully.

অন্য অপশনগুলো:
ক) She wrote a letter. → এখানে letter object, তাই verb wrote হলো transitive।
গ) He bought a new phone. → এখানে a new phone object, তাই verb bought হলো transitive।
ঘ) The coach selected the team. → এখানে the team object, তাই verb selected হলো transitive।

• As if/as though এর পূর্বে past indefinite tense থাকলে এরপরে past perfect tense হয়।
Example of Sentence:
- He spoke as though he had known everything.

• As if/as though এর পূর্বে present indefinite থাকলে এরপরে past indefinite tense হয়।
Example of Sentence:
- Tuhin acts as if he knew everything.
- She behaves as if she knew everything.

Complete Sentence - He spoke as if he had known it.

Correct answer: had finished.
Complete sentence: I had finished the report before she arrived.

• দুইটি clause যদি before দ্বারা যুক্ত থাকে তাহলে before এর পূর্বের clause টিতে verb এর past perfect এবং পরের clause টিতে past indefinite tense হয়।
- যেমন:  We had reached the school before the bell rang.
- যেহেতু প্রশ্নে উল্লিখিত বাক্যটিতে before এর পরের অংশে past indefinite  এ আছে, তাই আগের অংশ Past perfect tense হবে।
- আবার,যদি before দ্বারা যুক্ত প্রথম clauseটি future perfect tense এ হয়, তবে পরের clause টিতে present indefinite tense হবে।
- যেমন: We shall have reached the school before the bell rings.

• Correct Answer: খ) Infinitive.

- To swim in the river is fun.
- এই বাক্যে to swim হলো infinitive.
- কারণ, এটি Verb -এর to + base form.
- Infinitive হলো Verb -এর base form অথবা to + base form যা Noun, Adjective বা Adverb এর মতো কাজ করতে পারে।
- এই বাক্যে "To read" - Noun এর মতো কাজ করেছে এবং বাক্যের Subject হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে।

• Infinitive:
- Verb এর present form এর আগে to বসিয়ে Infinitive গঠন করা হয়।
- অর্থাৎ, Infinitive = to + verb.

• Infinitive দুই রকম হতে পারে-
1. To -যুক্ত infinitive এবং
2. To -বিহীন infinitive বা Bare Infinitive.

• Infinitive form বিভিন্ন ভাবে ব্যবহৃত হতে পারে।
- যেমন: Subject of verb, Object of verb, Complement of verb, object of preposition, etc.

ক) Verbal Noun:
- কোন বাক্যের Verb + ing - এর পুর্বে the এবং পরে of থাকলে তাকে Verbal Noun বলে।
- The + verb+ing + of = verbal noun.- Verbal Noun দ্বারা Noun এর কাজ সম্পন্ন হয়।

গ) Gerund:
- Verb -এর সাথে ing যোগ হয়ে যদি noun -এর কাজ করে অর্থাৎ, একই সাথে Verb ও noun -এর কাজ করে, তখন তাকে Gerund বলে।
- অর্থাৎ, Gerund হলো verb-এর -ing ফর্ম, যা বাক্যে noun হিসেবে কাজ করে।
- সহজে → Gerund = Verb + ing = noun = Verb + noun -এর কাজ করে।
- Gerunds don’t describe action—they act as nouns.

ঘ) Participle
- A participle is a verb that ends in -ing (present participle) or -ed, -d, -t, -en, -n (past participle). Participles may function as adjectives, describing or modifying nouns.
- Participle একই সাথে Verb ও Adjective এর কাজ করে।

• Participle মূলত: তিন প্রকার:

- Bangla meaning:  ক্ষতি; ক্ষয়; হানি।

• Lose (verb):
- English meaning: to miss from one's possession or from a customary or supposed place.
- Bangla meaning: হারিয়ে ফেলা; মৃত্যু হওয়া।

• Did she enjoy teaching?
- Here ‘teaching’ is- Gerund.

- Here, "teaching" acts as the object of the verb "enjoy".
- অর্থাৎ, এখানে 'teaching' শব্দটি 'enjoy' - Verb -এর Object হওয়ার কারণে এটি Noun হিসেবে কাজ করছে।
- আর Verb+ing → Noun হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হলে এটা Gerund হয়।  

- Enjoy, avoid, finish, dislike, ইত্যাদি verb এর পরে সাধারণত gerund (noun form) ব্যবহৃত হয়।

• Gerund:
- Verb -এর সাথে ing যোগ হয়ে যদি noun -এর কাজ করে অর্থাৎ, একই সাথে Verb ও noun -এর কাজ করে, তখন তাকে Gerund বলে।
- সহজে → Gerund = Verb + ing = noun = Verb + noun -এর কাজ করে।

• Functions of the Gerund:
1. Subject of a verb: Rising early is a good habit.
2. Object of a verb: I like reading poetry.
3. Object of a preposition: I am tired of waiting.

• অন্যদিকে,
- Participle হলো verbal adjective যা noun/pronoun কে modify করে অর্থাৎ, adjective-এর কাজ করে।

- সাধারণত:  কোন বস্তুর relative pronoun হিশেবে which ব্যবহৃত হয়। 

- সুতরাং সঠিক উত্তরটি হবে Which keeps.

• উদ্দেশ্য বুঝাতে so that এবং in order that এরপরে should/ would বসে।
- "So that" বেশি প্রচলিত, কিন্তু "in order that" অফিসিয়াল বা লেখালেখির ক্ষেত্রে বেশি ব্যবহৃত হয়।

• Structure: Main Clause + so that/ in order that + Subject + should/ would + Base Verb.

• Correct Answer: She whispered in the library so that nobody would hear her.

- তাই সঠিক উত্তরটি হবে - endeared. 

Endear (verb): 
English Meaning - To cause someone to be liked by someone.
Bangla Meaning - নিজেকে প্রিয় (প্রিয়তর) করা।

Complete Sentence - The speaker's charismatic personality and captivating speech endeared the audience, leaving them spellbound.

Other options, 
Repelled - তাড়িয়ে দেওয়া; গ্রহণ করতে অস্বীকৃতি জানানো; না-করা।

Different uses of Inside

Adverb
- Her car was locked and the keys were inside.
- She could hear voices inside, but no one came to the door.


Noun

Adjective

Preposition
- He had obviously been helped by someone inside the company.

• Hold out [phrasal verb with hold verb]
- English Meaning: To continue to defend yourself against an enemy or attack without being defeated.
- Bangla Meaning: প্রতিরোধ অব্যাহত রাখা; টিকে থাকা।

• Example Sentence:
1. They won’t be able to hold out much longer against these attacks.
2. The rebels vowed to hold out until their demands were met.

• Other options:
- make out - বুঝতে পারা; প্রতিপাদন করা; অগ্রগতি সাধন করা; সম্পর্ক চালিয়ে যাওয়া।

• While দ্বারা দুইটি বাক্যাংশ যুক্ত হলে:

• দুটি বর্তমান ঘটনা যদি while / when দ্বারা যুক্ত হয় তাহলে while / when যুক্ত অংশটি present continuous হয়। যেমন:

Complete sentence: She talks on the phone while her brother is playing games.

• While এর পূর্বে অংশ টি past indefinite এ হলে, এরপরের অংশে past continuous tense হয়। 

Example: I bought a magazine while I was waiting for the train.

আমাদের প্রথমেই Gerund আর Verbal noun-এর পার্থক্য বুঝতে হবে। Verb-এর -ing যুক্ত রূপকে আমরা gerund বলে জানি। gerund-এর বৈশিষ্ট্য হল এটি verb থেকে গঠিত হয় এবং এতে verb এবং noun-দুটোরই বৈশিষ্ট্য থাকে।
অপরদিকে, Verbal noun verb থেকে গঠিত হলেও শুধুই noun-এর মত আচরণ করে। এতে verb-এর বৈশিষ্ট্য থাকে না। এটি কোন বাক্যের subject বা object হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হতে পারে এবং এটির মডিফায়ার হিসেবে কোন adjective বা determiner ব্যবহৃত হতে পারে।
A gerund is a word (in modern English, ending in -ing) which derives from a verb and has some verb-like properties but also some noun-like properties.
Eating এই বাক্যে noun ও subject এর কাজ করছে ঠিকই কিন্তু এর পাশাপাশি এখানে eating-এর মধ্যে verb-এর লক্ষণও আছে কারণ এটি direct object হিসেবে (your dinner)-কে নিয়েছে এবং এর সাথে adverb (noisily)-ও আছে। তাই, আমরা দেখতে পাচ্ছি যে, Eating এখানে gerund।
