Subject-Verb-Agreement

• Complete sentence: Each of the books, along with the shelf's is dusty.

• Subject-Verb Agreement অনুযায়ী,
- Each of, Either of, Neither of এর পরে plural noun বা pronoun এবং singular verb বসে।

আবার,
- With, together with, along with, as well as, in addition to, accompanied with/by, and not, including, excluding, but, except, ইত্যাদি দ্বারা কোনো noun বা pronoun যুক্ত হলে, verb সর্বদা প্রথম subject (noun/ pronoun) অনুযায়ী হবে।
- অর্থাৎ, প্রথম noun/ pronoun টি singular হলে verb টি singular হবে।
- আবার প্রথম noun/ pronoun টি plural হলে  verb টি plural হবে।

- প্রদত্ত বাক্যে along with দ্বারা যুক্ত 'Each of the books' এর মূল subject হলো- "Each" তাই singular verb (is) ব্যবহৃত হবে।

The correct answer is ক) as well as an effective teacher.

Complete sentence: Dr. Jamal Nazrul Islam is a noted physicist as well as an effective teacher.

• যখন একই ব্যক্তি বা বিষয়ের দুটি ইতিবাচক গুণ বা বৈশিষ্ট্য একসঙ্গে দেখাতে হয়, তখন as well as ব্যবহার করা হয়।
- অর্থ: এবং সেই সঙ্গে / সেইসাথে / এছাড়াও।
- as well as এর পরে যে phrase আসে, সেটা noun phrase বা adjective phrase হয় (এখানে "an effective teacher" হচ্ছে noun phrase). Verb-এর পুরো clause আসে না।
- Subject-এর সঙ্গে verb-এর agreement as well as-এর পরের অংশের ওপর নির্ভর করে না — শুধু প্রথম subject-এর ওপর নির্ভর করে।

অন্যান্য অপশন ভুল:
খ: "and too a very efficient teacher" - ভুল গঠন। "Too" এভাবে ব্যবহার করা যায় না। সঠিক রূপ: "and also a very efficient teacher"

গ: "but he teaches very good in addition" - "but" মানে বিপরীতমুখী (contrast), এখানে কোনো contrast নেই, দুটোই positive quality, "teaches very good" ভুল, adverb হবে very well (teaches very well), তাছাড়া বাক্যের গঠন অস্বাভাবিক ও অপ্রাকৃতিক।

ঘ: "however he teaches very good also" - "however" মানে "তবে" / "কিন্তু", contrast দেখায়, যা এখানে দরকার নেই। "Good" এর জায়গায় "well" হবে।

The correct answer is - ঘ) You, Rahim and I are ready.

​কোন Sentence-এ বিভিন্ন persons-এর Noun ও Pronoun একত্রে লিখবার সময়ে প্রথমে 2nd person, তার পর 3rd person এবং শেষে 1st person (231) বসে।.

– এখানে (I)(1st person) শুরুতে বসেছে, যা ভুল।

গ) Rahim, I and you are ready. 
– এখানে order হয়েছে: 3rd → 1st → 2nd, যা সঠিক নয়।

• বাক্যে having, be, being, get, got, have/has/ had, become, look, remain, এদের পর Verb Past Participle form (V3) হয়।

- “Getting used to something” অর্থ কোন কিছুর সাথে মানিয়ে নেওয়া।
- In this context, the speaker is adjusting to the habit of eating three meals a day.

- I do not usually eat three meals a day, I am getting used to it.
- আমি সাধারণত দিনে তিনবেলা খাই না, তবে এখন একটু একটু করে অভ্যস্ত হচ্ছি।

Other options:
ক) I am using it. –  “Using” means ব্যবহার করা, অভ্যস্ত হওয়া নয়।

খ) I had use to it. –  ভুল structure; “had used to” or “used to” is correct in other contexts, but not here.

গ) I used it. –  “used” মানে ব্যবহার করা — এখানে মানানসই নয়।

• Complete Sentence: He is accustomed to hard work.

- accustomed to হলো সমার্থক phrase এর পর noun/gerund নেয়।
- Accustomed to মানে অভ্যস্ত বা পরিচিত হওয়া।
- Accustomed to এর পরে noun বা gerund (-ing) আসে।
- with, of, by ব্যবহার করলে বাক্য ভুল হয়।
- যেমন: She is accustomed to waking up early. → সে সকালে ওঠার অভ্যস্ত।
- তাই সঠিক বাক্য হলো: He is accustomed to hard work.
- hard work হলো noun.

• Either --- or, Neither --- nor দ্বারা Singular Subject যুক্ত হলে Verb Singular হয়।
- Example: Either he or his brother is guilty.

• Either --- or, Neither --- nor দ্বারা যুক্ত Subject যদি ভিন্ন Person এর হয় তবে Verb টি শেষ Subject অনুযায়ী নিবে।
- Example: Neither he nor his friends are present in the class.

• Structure:
- [Either/neither] + noun + [or/nor] + singular noun + singular verb.
- Example: Neither the salesmen nor the marketing manager is in favor of the system.

- [Either/neither] + noun + [or/nor] + plural noun + plural verb.
- Example: Neither John nor his friends are going to the beach today.

• প্রশ্নে উল্লিখিত বাক্যে 'or' এর পর plural noun আছে; তাই verb-ও plural হবে। 

• Complete Sentence: Either he or his friends have done it.

Complete sentence: Neither my sister nor my mother is available right now.
- যেহেতু প্রশ্নে উল্লেখিত বাক্যের শেষে my mother – singular noun আছে, তাই এখানে ‍is হবে।

• Neither .... nor দ্বারা দুইটা Noun/Pronoun যুক্ত হলে শেষের noun/pronoun অনুযায়ী verb বসে।

• [Either/neither] + noun + [or/nor] + singular noun + singular verb.
- Neither the salesmen nor the marketing manager is in favor of the system.

• [Either/neither] + noun + [or/nor] + plural noun + plural verb.
- Neither John nor his friends are going to the beach today.

Options,

খ) are → ভুল (plural verb, কিন্তু neither...nor-এ singular দরকার)।

গ) was → ভুল (past tense, কিন্তু বাক্যটি present-এ "right now").

ঘ) have been → ভুল (plural এবং perfect tense, এখানে মানানসই নয়)।

• Complete sentence: The number of applicants has risen compared to last year.

এখানে subject হলো “The number”, যা singular, তাই singular verb ব্যবহার করতে হবে।
has risen – rise এর singular present perfect.

• Structure:
• The Number of + Plural Noun + Singular Verb হয়।
- যেমন - 
- The number of girls is present in today's program.
- The number of people was very high.

Other options,

ক) have risen:
- 'have' plural subject এর সাথে ব্যবহার হয়, কিন্তু এখানে subject singular.

গ) have raised: 
- "have" plural এর জন্য (subject singular)
- "raised" একটি transitive verb - এর সাথে object দরকার (কী raise করেছে?)

ঘ) has raised:
- "raised" transitive verb - এর সাথে object লাগবে, বাক্যে কোনো object নেই (কী raise করা হয়েছে?)

অন্যদিকে,
- A number of + plural Noun + plural verb.

• আরো কিছু উদাহরণ -
• A number of boys are present in today's class.
- A number of books have been borrowed from the library.
- A number of employees are attending the conference.
- A number of houses were decorated for the holiday season.
- A number of birds migrate south during the winter.
- A number of books fill the library shelves.

• Either --- or, Neither --- nor দ্বারা Singular Subject যুক্ত হলে Verb Singular হয়।
- Example: Either he or his brother is guilty.

• Either --- or, Neither --- nor দ্বারা যুক্ত Subject যদি ভিন্ন Person এর হয় তবে Verb টি শেষ Subject অনুযায়ী নিবে।
- Example: Neither he nor his friends are present in the class.

• Subject ভিন্ন Person এর হওয়ার কারণে Verb টি শেষ Subject অনুযায়ী প্রদত্ত Sentence টিতে Plural Verb হিসেবে Are অথবা Have বসেবে। কিন্তু completed শব্দটি complete (Verb) এর Past Participle হওয়ায় এখানে are এর পরিবর্তে Have হবে। 

• Correct Sentence: Neither the teacher nor the students have completed the project on time.

Correct answer: is. 
- Complete sentence: Bread and butter is often served at the start of dinner. 
- এখানে "Bread and butter" একটি খাবারকে বোঝাচ্ছে তাই singular verb গ্রহণ করবে, আবার বাক্যে "often" থাকায় Present Indefinite Tense হিসেবে verb "is" গ্রহণ করবে।

• দুটি Singular noun 'and' দ্বারা যুক্ত হয়েও যদি একই ব্যক্তি/ বস্তুকে নির্দেশ করে তখন Verb টি Singular হবে। যেমন:
- Bread and butter, Rice and curry, The sum and substance, Slow and steady, Crown and glory এরা সবাই Singular Subject তাই এদের পর verb ও Singular হবে।
- Example:
- Bread and butter is my favorite breakfast.
- Crown and glory has attracted Macbeth.

• কিন্তু Subject এর ভিন্নতা বোঝাতে Plural হয়,
- Gold and silver are precious metals.
- Fire and water do not agree.
- Knowledge and wisdom have of times no connection.

Complete sentence: Each of the students has completed the assignment.

- Each of the + plural noun (এখানে students) হলেও verb singular হবে, কারণ each নিজে singular.

• One of, Any of, Each of, Either of, Neither of বাক্যের subject হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হলে verb টি singular হবে।
- অর্থাৎ, One of/Each of…+ plural noun + singular verb + ext.
- যেমন: Each of the athletes has been training for months, even years.

• More Examples:
- Each of the guests was greeted with a warm welcome.
- Each of the students was present at the field.

Option বিশ্লেষণ
ক) are completed
- Passive voice present tense, কিন্তু এখানে active structure লাগবে।

গ) have completed
- 'have' Plural verb, "students" দেখে plural মনে হয়, কিন্তু "Each" singular, তাই have ব্যবহার হবে না।

ঘ) completed
- simple past tense; context অনুযায়ী present perfect বোঝাচ্ছে, তাই ভুল।

• Complete Sentence: The number of zebras has grown.
- Bangla Meaning: জেব্রার পরিমাণ বৃদ্ধি পেয়েছে।

- এখানে বাক্যের subject হচ্ছে "The number of zebras ".
- যদিও "zebras" plural, কিন্তু বাক্যের প্রধান subject হলো "The number", যা singular.

- Grammar rule অনুযায়ী:
- যখন subject "The number of + plural noun" হয়, তখন verb টি singular হয়।
- এছাড়াও, বাক্যটি present perfect tense-এ রয়েছে, যা বোঝায় যে গত কিছু সময়ের মধ্যে জেব্রার  পরিমাণ বৃদ্ধি পেয়েছে।

Complete sentence: The purple shirt as well as the white shirt is packed in the suitcase.
- এখানে as well as দ্বারা দুটি Subject যুক্ত থাকায় এবং প্রথম Subject টি Singular হওয়ার কারনে verb টিও Singular হবে।

Subject-Verb agreement অনুযায়ী:
- With, together with, along with, as well as, in addition to, accompanied with/by, and not, including, excluding, but, except ইত্যাদি দ্বারা কোনো noun or pronoun যুক্ত হলে, verb সর্বদা প্রথম subject (noun/ pronoun) অনুযায়ী হবে।
- অর্থাৎ, প্রথম noun/ pronoun টি singular হলে verb টি singular হবে।
- আবার প্রথম noun/ pronoun টি plural হলে verb টি plural হবে।
- তাই প্রথম subject অনুসারে is packed  ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে।

Other options:
ক) are packed:
- প্রথম Subject টি Singular হবার কারনে verb টিও Singular হবে। তাই এখানে verb ইহার ব্যবহার সঠিক নয়।

খ) have packed:
- এখানে শার্ট প্যাকিং এর কাজটি নিজে নিজে হতে পারে না।কর্মবাচ্যের বাক্য হবার কারনে এখানে have packed এর ব্যবহার সঠিক নয়।

গ) were packed:
- প্রথম Subject টি Singular হবার কারনে verb টিও Singular হবে। তাই এখানে verb ইহার ব্যবহার সঠিক নয়।

• Complete sentence: Neither my mother nor my father was present there.

• "Neither...nor" এর subject-verb agreement নিয়ম:
- Either ...... or, Neither….nor, Not only….but also দ্বারা যুক্ত একাধিক subject -এর ক্ষেত্রে verb টি তার নিকটতম subject অনুসারে বসে।
- অর্থাৎ, or, nor, but also -এর পরে singular subject থাকলে singular verb এবং plural subject থাকলে plural verb বসবে।
- যেহেতু প্রদত্ত প্রশ্নের শেষের subject "my father" = third person singular,  third person singular number এ আছে, তাই এখানে verb = was (singular) হবে।

- Structure:
• [Either/neither] + noun + [or/nor] + singular noun + singular verb.
- Neither the salesmen nor the marketing manager is in favour of the system.

• [Either/neither] + noun + [or/nor] + plural noun + plural verb.
- Neither Rahi nor his friends are qualified for the job.

অন্যদিকে,
- Has হলো present perfect and doesn't fit with "present there."
- Were এবং are হলো plural, তাই ভুল।

Correct answer: was.
- এখানে Headmaster এবং Secretary একই ব্যক্তি তাই পরবর্তী  verb singular হবে আবার ঘটনাটি অতীতকালের হওয়ায় এখানে verb হিসেবে "was" বসবে।

• And দ্বারা যুক্ত দুটি Singular noun যদি একই ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুকে বুঝায় তবে তাদের verb singular হয়।
- Example: The headmaster and secretary is going out.
- আবার, And দ্বারা যুক্ত sentence এ যদি subject একই ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুকে না বুঝিয়ে ভিন্ন দুটি ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুকে বুঝায় তখন তাদের verb ও pronoun plural হয়।
- The headmaster and the secretary are going out.
- Sub দুটি ব্যক্তি এটি বুঝার সহজ উপায় হলো Subject বা Noun এর পূর্বে Article আছে কিনা তা লক্ষ্য রাখা।
- Noun দুটি ভিন্ন হলে noun দুটির আগে the থাকবে।
- Example: The Headmaster and the Secretary have given their consent.

• Complete sentence: Neither the moon nor the stars were visible last night.

• Subject-Verb Agreement অনুযায়ী,
- Either ...... or, Neither….nor, Not only….but also দ্বারা যুক্ত একাধিক subject -এর ক্ষেত্রে verb টি তার নিকটতম subject অনুসারে বসে।
- অর্থাৎ, assertive sentence -এ or, nor, but also -এর পরে singular subject থাকলে singular verb এবং plural subject থাকলে plural verb বসবে।

- যেমন: Neither the moon nor the stars were visible last night.
- এখানে যেহেতু, শেষের অংশে the stars হলো – Plural Noun, তাই এখানে plural verb 'were' হবে।
- প্রদত্ত বাক্যে 'last night' থাকায়, simple past 'were' ব্যবহার করতে হবে।

- Structure:
• [Either/neither] + noun + [or/nor] + singular noun + singular verb.
- Neither the salesmen nor the marketing manager is in favour of the system.
