• The correct sentence is: Rice and curry is a popular dish.

- যখন "and" দিয়ে দুটি আলাদা subject যুক্ত হয়, তখন সাধারণত plural verb (বহুবচন ক্রিয়া) ব্যবহার করা হয়।
- কিন্তু যদি দুটি subject মিলে একই বস্তু বা একটি ধারণা বোঝায়, তাহলে singular verb (একবচন ক্রিয়া) হয়।
- যেমন "Rice and curry" এখানে একসঙ্গে একটি খাবার বোঝাচ্ছে, তাই একবচন verb "is" সঠিক।
- অনেক সময় "bread and butter", "rice and curry", "fish and chips" - এ ধরনের বাক্যে যৌথভাবে একটিই জিনিস বোঝানো হয়।
- তাই subject-verb agreement ঠিক রাখতে হলে বোঝা দরকার "and" দ্বারা যুক্ত subject দুটি একসঙ্গে একটি জিনিস বোঝাচ্ছে কিনা।

– এটি একটি একক খাবার বোঝায়, তাই "is" ব্যবহার করা উচিত।

খ) He and I am well.
– দুইজন বুঝাচ্ছে তাই, am হবে না। 

ঘ) Honesty and hard work brings success.
– "Honesty" ও "hard work" দুটি ভিন্ন গুণ, তাই verb হবে "bring" (plural).

• "fewer" ব্যবহৃত হয় countable noun (যেমন students, books, people) এর আগে।
- "No fewer than" মানে কমপক্ষে (at least) বা not less than.
- Students countable হওয়ায় fewer এবং,
- Students plural হওয়াতে verb হিসেবে were ব্যবহার সঠিক।

খ) No lesser than fifty students were present.
- ভুল, "Lesser" সাধারণত degree বা quality বোঝাতে ব্যবহৃত হয়, সংখ্যা বোঝাতে নয়।
-"Students" সংখ্যা বোঝাচ্ছে, তাই "fewer" হওয়া উচিত।

- বাক্যের Subject "Plural common" হওয়ায় এবং এটি Passive voice এর বাক্য হওয়ায় এখনে verb হিসেবে "are" বসবে।

• কোন adjective এর পূর্বে the বসালে, সেটি আর adjective থাকে না।

- বাক্যের Subject "The great" হচ্ছে adjective. Adjective এর সাথে "s" যুক্ত হতে পারে না।

- অর্থাৎ, প্রথম noun/pronoun টি singular হলে verb টি singular হবে।
- আবার প্রথম noun/ pronoun টি plural হলে verb টি plural হবে।

ক) The mayor, with his councilors, are to be present.
- With, দ্বারা কোনো একাধিক noun বা pronoun যুক্ত হলে, verb সর্বদা প্রথম subject (noun/pronoun) অনুযায়ী হবে। তাই এখানে প্রথম subject অনুযায়ী Plural verb এর ব্যবহার সঠিক নয়।

- One of এর পরে plural noun + singular verb বসে।
- কারণ "one of" মানে হলো "অনেকের মধ্যে একজন"।
- অর্থাৎ, এই বাক্যের subject হলো "One" (singular) not "sisters".
- "of my sisters" is a prepositional phrase that modifies "one", এই phrase টি verb এর উপর কোনো প্রভাব ফেলে না।

- প্রদত্ত বাক্যে One of এর পরে plural noun 'sisters' আছে এবং এর পরে singular verb 'is' বসেছে।
- সুতরাং, subject-verb agreement অনুসারে সঠিক বাক্যটি হলো- One of my sisters is a nurse.

- ভুল, কারণ verb হিসেবে "are" নয়, "is" ব্যবহার করতে হবে।

খ) One of my sister is a nurse.
- ভুল, কারণ "sister" হলো singular noun, কিন্তু নিয়মানুযায়ী plural noun 'sisters' হবে।

ঘ) One of my sister's are a nurse.
- possessive form "sister's" use করা হয়েছে যা ভুল,এবং verb হিসেবে "are" ব্যবহার করা হয়েছে যা grammatically ভুল।

• একটি sentence-এ নির্দিষ্ট subject-এর সাথে নির্দিষ্ট কিছু verb বা verb-এর form ব্যবহার করার নিয়মই হলো subject-verb agreement।
- কোন Sentence- এর Verb তার Subject, Number, Person ও Tense অনুযায়ী বসে।
- কোন বাক্যে Subject যদি Singular হয় তখন Verb Singular হবে।

• সাধারণত ভগ্নাংশের ক্ষেত্রে প্রথমটি One এর বেশি হলে দ্বিতীয়টির সঙ্গে 's' যোগ হয় (যেমন: Two-thirds).
- কিন্তু প্রথমটি One হলে দ্বিতীয়টির সঙ্গে 's' যোগ হয় না (যেমন: One-third).
- তবে ভগ্নাংশের পর Subject যদি 'singular' হয় তাহলে Verb singular হবে।
- Subject যদি 'plural' হলে Verb plural হবে।

• উল্লিখিত বাকি অপশনগুলো,
খ) One-fourths of the students are present today.
- ভুল। কারণ One-fourths না হয়ে One-fourth হবে। তাই ভুল।

গ) One-fourth of the student are absent today.
- ভুল। "the student" একবচন, তাই verb are না হয়ে is হবে।

ঘ) One-fourth of the students were present today.
- ভুল। কারণ এখানে "today" থাকায় Tense অনুসারে এটি Present Tense. কিন্তু এখানে verb were ব্যবহার করা হয়েছে, যা Past Tense কে নির্দেশ করে। তাই ভুল।

- Neither of এর পরে plural noun 'players' এবং singular verb 'was' বসেছে।

• Each of, Either of, Neither of এর পরে plural noun বা pronoun এবং singular verb বসে।
- Either দ্বারা দুইয়ের প্রত্যেকটি বুঝানো হয়।
- Neither দ্বারা দুইয়ের কোনটিই নয় বুঝানো হয়।

• 'Neither of' যুক্ত বাক্য গঠনের নিয়মাবলী:
- Neither + of + plural noun + singular verb.
- Neither of এর পরে plural noun এবং singular verb বসে।

g) insisting→ verb হিসেবে insisting এর ব্যবহার ভুল।কারণ continuous tense এ Auxiliary verb এর পর মূল verb এর সাথে ing যুক্ত হয়।

• One of/ Any of/ Each of/ Either of/ Neither of যদি subject হিসেবে ব্যবহার  হয় তাহলে এরপরে সব সময় Plural Noun বসে। যার কারণে এটি 'Each of the children' হয়েছে।
- আর 'Each of the children' phrase এর headword টি 'Each' singular হওয়ায় Verb Singular হবে।
- তাই, Verb হিসেবে has ব্যবহার হয়েছে।

• উল্লিখিত বাকি অপশনগুলো,

- ভুল। কারণ, Each of এরপর সব সময় Plural Noun বসে। আর child এখানে singular অর্থে ব্যবহার করা হয়েছে।

- ভুল। Each of the children এ "each" singular subject নির্দেশ করছে কিন্তু এখানে singular verb ব্যবহার না হয়ে plural verb (have) ব্যবহার করা হয়েছে।

- যেহেতু প্রশ্নে উল্লেখিত বাক্যের nor এর পরে "the salesmen" Plural noun, তাই এখানে সঠিক উত্তর হবে "are in favour".

• Either or, Neither....nor, Not only....but also দ্বারা যুক্ত একাধিক subject-এর ক্ষেত্রে verb টি তার নিকটতম subject অনুসারে বসে।
- অর্থাৎ,পরবর্তরী subject অনুসারে বসে।
- অর্থাৎ, or, nor, but also -এর পরে singular subject থাকলে singular verb এবং plural subject থাকলে plural verb বসবে।

- ভগ্নাংশের পরে noun-singular হলে verb singular এবং noun plural হলে verb plural হয়। এখানে Plural noun এর পর Singular verb ব্যবহার করায় এটি সঠিক নয়।

ঘ) Two-thirds of the students are present at the reunion party last night.

- Subject -এর সাথে preposition দিয়ে যে শব্দ বা শব্দসমষ্টি যুক্ত থাকে তারা কখনোই verb -এর উপর কোনো প্রভাব ফেলে না।
- তাই সাধারণত preposition/ prepositional phrase -এর পূর্বের subject অনুসারে বসে।
- অর্থাৎ, preposition/ prepositional phrase -এর পূর্বের subject টি plural হলে verb টি plural হবে এবং subject টি singular হলে verb টি singular হবে।

• Subject-Verb Agreement অনুযায়ী,
- Infinitive/Gerund/Clause, এগুলো যদি বাক্যের subject হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হয়, তবে এগুলো third person singular -এর verb নেয়।
- অর্থাৎ, verb টি তখন singular হয়।
- যেমন: Telling lies is a very bad habit.

- প্রশ্নে প্রদত্ত বাক্যে subject হলো "Studying lots of books", যা একটি gerund phrase (gerund + object + modifiers).
- Gerund phrase সবসময় singular verb নেয়। তাই verb টি singular "makes" হবে।
- সুতরাং, শূন্যস্থানে সঠিক উত্তর হিসেবে 'makes' বসবে।

অন্যদিকে,
ক) make → plural verb, কিন্তু subject singular.
গ) making → এটি verb নয়, gerund/participle; এখানে finite verb দরকার।
ঘ) is made → passive voice, যা অর্থ পরিবর্তন করে দেয় (অর্থ হয়ে যায় "books দিয়ে person তৈরি হয়")।

Correct answer: is.
