Adjective and Adverb

Adverb: 
- যেসব word noun বা pronoun ব্যতীত অন্য যেকোনো parts of speech, বিশেষ করে verb কে modify করে সেগুলোকে Adverb বলে।

• We're about ready to leave.
- এখানে about দ্বারা almost (প্রায়) বুঝাচ্ছে। 
- এই sentene এ 'about' শব্দটি adverb হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে। কারণ এটি ready (adjective) কে modify করছে। 

• About (adverb): 
Meaning - 1) সামান্য উনিশ-বিশ; সামান্য আগে-পরে; প্রায় কাছাকাছি: It’s about time something is done. 
2) এখানে-সেখানে; যত্রতত্র; ইতস্তত: We saw them moving about. 
3) কাছে; কারো নিকটে: Shoes are lying about on the floor. 
4) বিপরীতমুখী; উলটোদিকে। 

এছাড়াও, 'about' শব্দটি preposition হিসেবেও ব্যবহৃত হয়। 
• About (preposition): 
১) বিষয় বা সম্বন্ধে অর্থে 'About' ব্যবহৃত হয়। যেমন: I know everything about him. 
২) চারদিকে - I wrapped a piece of cloth about my finger. 
৩) প্রায় বা কাছাকাছি - The stick is about six inches long. 
৪) উপলক্ষে - She came to our house about that matter. 
৫) (গতিসূচক verb’s-সহ): এখানে-সেখানে; যত্রতত্র; ইতস্তত: Prisoners broke open the jail and were wandering about the town.

• Correct answer: Land price is going up.

- "up" একটি Preposition.
- কিন্তু "up" এর পরে কোনো noun বা pronoun নেই, তাই এখানে preposition হিসেবে কাজ করছে না।
- এটি go ক্রিয়াকে বিশেষণ করছে অর্থাৎ "go কোথায়?"
- "go up" = উপরের দিকে যাওয়া = বাড়া।
- তাই প্রদত্ত Sentence টিতে Up হলো Adverb.

উল্লিখিত বাকি অপশনগুলো,
ক) The up train will come soon.
প্রদত্ত Sentence এ Up noun (train) কে modify করেছে।
- তাই এই sentence এ Up হলো Adjective.

খ) Every man has ups and downs in life.
- আমরা জানি, verb এর object হিসেবে Noun বা Pronoun বসে।
প্রদত্ত Sentence এ Has এর object হিসেবে এখানে Up ব্যবহার করা হয়েছে।
- তাই এখানে Up হচ্ছে Noun.

ঘ) He went up the hill.
- Noun Phrase (article + noun = the hill) এর পূর্বে Preposition বসে।

• The question was difficult to answer.
Here, the word "difficult" is a/ an - Adjective.

• Here, "difficult" describes the state/ condition of the subject "The question" (meaning not easy or needing effort or skill).
- অর্থাৎ, "difficult" এখানে linking verb বা be verb "was" এর পরে বসে subject "The question" এর অবস্থা বর্ণনা করছে।
- তাই, (subject complement) হিসেবে এটি এখানে adjective হয়েছে।

• Difficult (Adjective):
- English Meaning: Not easy; needing effort or skill to do or to understand.
- Bangla Meaning: কঠিন; দুঃসাধ্য; শ্রমসাধ্য।

- "Neither" দুটি জিনিসের মধ্যে কোনটিই নয় বোঝাতে ব্যবহৃত হয় এটি সংখ্যা বা পরিমাণ নির্দেশ করে।
উদাহরণ: "Neither boy passed the test"

Adjectives of Number/Numeric Adjective:
- Noun বা Pronoun-এর সংখ্যা বা ক্রম বোঝাতে যে adjective ব্যবহার করা হয়, তাকে Numeric Adjective বা Adjective of Number বলে। এটি মূলত কতটি বস্তু বা ব্যক্তি আছে, বা তাদের অবস্থান ক্রমানুসারে কী, তা নির্দেশ করে।
অর্থাৎ Numeric Adjective মূলত সংখ্যা (Number) বা ক্রম (Order) বোঝানোর জন্য ব্যবহৃত হয়। 

উল্লিখিত প্রশ্নের "Neither" Adjective of Number কারণ এটি দুটি ব্যক্তি/বস্তুর মধ্যে শূন্য সংখ্যা নির্দেশ করে।

My phone's in my back pocket. Here 'back' is - Adjective.
-  এখানে 'back' শব্দটি pocket কে বর্ণনা করছে, অর্থাৎ পেছনের পকেট। তাই এটি একটি adjective, যা noun কে modify করে।

• Back: [adjective]
English meaning: located behind or at the back of something.

Example:
- My phone's in my back pocket. 
- We were sitting in the back row.
- We drove along miles of twisty back roads (= away from the main roads).

In "The wrong answer cost him marks", 'wrong' is - adjective.
- এখানে wrong শব্দটি answer (noun)–কে বর্ণনা করছে।
- অর্থাৎ, কোন ধরনের উত্তর? - ভুল উত্তর।
 
• যে শব্দ Noun/ Pronoun এর দোষ গুণ, অবস্থা, সংখ্যা, পরিমাণ ইত্যাদি প্রকাশ করে তাকে Adjective বলে।

wrong: [adjective]
English meaning: not right or correct.
Bangla meaning: ভুল; অঠিক; অযৌক্তিক।

Example:
- I got all the answers wrong.
- He was driving on the wrong side of the road.

Rule: যখন কোনো Pronoun কোনো Noun/pronoun এর পূর্বে বসে Noun/pronoun কে modify করে তখন তাকে Pronominal Adjective বলা হয়।
প্রশ্নে উল্লেখিত which শব্দটি one কে modify করায় তা Interrogative Pronoun না হয়ে Interrogative Adjective হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে।
Relative pronoun কখনোই বাক্যের শুরুতে বসে না।
conjunction মূলত সংযোগ করে। কোন কিছুকে সংযোগ না করায় এটি conjunction হতে পারে না।

Vigorously (adverb):
English Meaning - In a way that is very forceful or energetic. 
Bangla Meaning - বলিষ্ঠভাবে।

• Adverb: 
 - Adverb এমন একটি part of speech যা একটি verb, adjective, অন্য একটি adverb অথবা পুরো একটি বাক্যকে modify করতে পারে। 
- অর্থাৎ, যেসব word noun বা pronoun ছাড়া অন্য যেকোন parts of speech, বিশেষ করে verb কে modify করে সেগুলোকে adverb বলে।
- কখন, কোথায়, কীভাবে, কেন এই প্রশ্নগুলোর উত্তর যা আসে তা adverb হয়ে থাকে।

• She exercised vigorously at the gym. 
Meaning - তিনি ব্যায়ামাগারে জোর দিয়ে ব্যায়াম করেছেন। 
- এই sentence- টিতে 'vigorously' Adverb of manner হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে। 
- কেননা, এই বাক্যে 'কীভাবে' দ্বারা প্রশ্ন করলে উত্তর পাওয়া যায়- তিনি জোর দিয়ে ব্যায়াম করেছেন।  
- অর্থাৎ, তিনি কীভাবে ব্যায়াম করছেন তা বুঝাচ্ছে। 

• Adverb of manner:
- যে adverb কোনোকিছু কীভাবে হয়/হচ্ছে/হবে তা ব্যখ্যা/উল্লেখ করে তাকে Adverb of manner বলে ।
- Most of these adverbs have “ly” at their end such as, clearly, quickly, slowly, happily, badly, etc. Fast, hard, well, etc. are also adverbs of manner.

- You should have gone there before. 
- here, 'before' is - Adverb.
- এখানে before হলো সেই শব্দ যা কোনো কাজ বা ঘটনার সময় নির্দেশ করছে।
- অর্থাৎ এটি “কখন?” প্রশ্নের উত্তর দিচ্ছে, তাই এটি হলো adverb.

• Before (adverb):
English meaning: at an earlier time; in the past; already.
Bangla Meaning: আগে; পূর্বে; অতীতে; ইতিমধ্যে।

• Example sentence: 
- You should have told me so before.
- It had been fine the week before (= the previous week).
- That had happened long before (= a long time earlier).
- I think we've met before.

We were flying above the clouds. Here 'above' is - preposition.
- এই বাক্যে "above" শব্দটি preposition (সম্বন্ধ সূচক অব্যয়) হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে।
- "Above" শব্দটি "flying" (verb) এবং "the clouds" (noun) এর মধ্যে সম্পর্ক স্থাপন করছে।
- এটি অবস্থান নির্দেশ করছে - মেঘের উপরে।
- Preposition এর পরে সবসময় একটি object (noun/pronoun) থাকে।
- এখানে: above + the clouds (object/noun phrase আছে)।

• above: [preposition]
English meaning: at or to a higher place or position than something/somebody.
Bangla meaning: অধিকতর উঁচুতে; আরো উপরে।

Example:
- The water came above our knees.
- We were flying above the clouds.
- They finished the year six places above their local rivals.

সঠিক উত্তর হলো - adverb.
Sound travels better in water than in air.
- এই বাক্যে 'better' শব্দটি 'travels' verb কে বর্ণনা করছে।
- এটি বলছে শব্দ কীভাবে ভ্রমণ করে।
- অর্থাৎ, "শব্দ পানিতে বেশি ভালোভাবে ভ্রমণ করে"।
- যেহেতু এটি verb কে modify করছে, তাই এটি adverb.

Bangla meaning: কোনো কাজ বা পরিস্থিতি আগের চেয়ে ভালো বা বেশি আনন্দদায়কভাবে ঘটেছে।

The (adverb)
- Bangla Meaning: যে পরিমাণে।
- English Meaning: to that extent.

- তাছাড়া, the, definite article হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হয়। 

- The more you practice, the better you become.
- তুমি যত বেশি অনুশীলন করবে, ততই ভালো হবে।
- এখানে “the” comparative adverbial phrase-এর অংশ হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে, যা ক্রিয়ার ফলাফলের মাত্রা বা ধরণ দেখাচ্ছে।

Resigned (adjective): 
English Meaning - Willing to accept something unpleasant.
Bangla Meaning - কোনো কিছু মেনে নিয়েছে এমন; আত্মসমর্পিত।

Correct Sentence - After many failed attempts, he adopted a resigned approach to finding a solution.
এখানে, 'resigned' শব্দটি adjective হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে। 

এছাড়াও, 
(১) Resign (from) - পদত্যাগ করা; (দাবি) ত্যাগকারী।
(২) Resign somebody/oneself to somebody/something - সমর্পণ করা।
(৩) Oneself to something/be resigned to something - হাসিমুখে/বিনা প্রতিবাদে সব সয়ে যাওয়া।

Hopefully (adverb):
Meaning - (১) আশাপ্রদরূপে।
(২) আমি আশা করছি; আশা করা যায়।

Adverb: 
- যেসব word noun বা pronoun ব্যতীত অন্য যেকোনো parts of speech, বিশেষ করে verb কে modify করে সেগুলোকে Adverb বলে।
- Adverb অন্য কোনো verb, adjective, adverb, preposition অথবা পুরো sentence টিকেই modify করতে পারে। 

• Hopefully, the weather will be good soon.
- এই বাক্যটিতে 'Hopefully' শব্দটি পুরো sentence কে modify করছে। 
- তাই, এখানে 'Hopefully' হচ্ছে Adverb.

Correct answer: Indefinite numeral adjective.

- যে Adjective কোন noun-এর নির্দিষ্ট সংখ্যা, ক্রম, পর্যায় বা গুণিতক ইত্যাদি বোঝায় তাকে Numeral Adjective বলে।
- যেমন: some, several, few, many, no, one, two, three, etc.
- Numeral Adjective দুই প্রকার। যথা:
- 1. Definite Numeral Adjective.
- 2. Indefinite Numeral Adjective.

• Definite Numeral Adjective তিন প্রকার। যথা:
- 1. Cardinal Numeral Adjective - one, two, three, four, five ইত্যাদি সংখ্যা হলো Cardinal সংখ্যা। 
- 2. Ordinal Numeral Adjective - first, second, third, fourth, fifth ইত্যাদি সংখ্যা হলো Ordinal সংখ্যা। 
- 3. Multiplicative Numeral Adjective- single, double, triple, quadruple, fivefold etc. 

• Indefinite Numeral Adjective
- Noun -এর অনির্দিষ্ট সংখ্যা বোঝায়।
- যেমন: some, several, few, many, no ইত্যাদি।
- সুতরাং, আরও নির্দিষ্ট করে বললে এখানে several হচ্ছে Indefinite Numeral Adjective.

যেসব word verb, adjective বা কোন sentence কে modify করে তা Adverb.
কিছু কিছু ly বিহীন শব্দ আছে যেগুলো noun কে modify করলে adjective আর verb কে modify করলে adverb.
এখানে well শব্দটি verb written কে modify করেছে তাই এটি Adverb.

• He was too cowardly to give the order. Here, 'cowardly' is an - Adjective.
-  এখানে cowardly শব্দটি he (subject)-এর গুণ/স্বভাব বোঝাচ্ছে—অর্থাৎ সে কেমন ছিল? → ভীরু।

• Adjective:
- সাধারণত noun বা pronoun এর পূর্বে বসে noun বা pronoun কে modify করে, তাকে adjective বলে। 

• Cowardly: [adjective]
- English meaning: not brave; not having the courage to do things that other people do not think are especially difficult.
- Bangla meaning: ভীরু, কাপুরুষোচিত, ভয়প্রবণ।

অন্যদিকে,
• Cowardly (adverb) [old use]
- English Meaning: in a way that shows someone is not at all brave and is too eager to avoid danger, difficulty, or pain:
- Bangla Meaning:  (১) ভীরু স্বভাবের। (২) কাপুরুষোচিত।

- যেমন: We will not retreat or act cowardly.
- অর্থাৎ, এটি যখন কোনো verb-কে modify করে তখন adverb হিসেবে কাজ করে।

- Here, 'any' is an Adverb.

- যেসব word adjective কে modify করে সেগুলো Adverb হিসেবে গণ্য হয়।
- এখানে “any” শব্দটি adjective “better”-কে modify করে, কি মাত্রায় better.
- It means "to the slightest extent" or "at all."

• Any (adverb):
- English Meaning: to any extent or degree: at all or in the least.
- Bangla Meaning: (না কিংবা সংশয় বোঝায় এমন negative(ly), interrogative ও conditional বাক্যে comparative-সহ ব্যবহৃত হয়।

(১) সুদৃশ্যভাবে সাজানো:

• He ordered a spicy curry for lunch. Here 'spicy' is an - Attributive Adjective.

• বাক্যে অবস্থান এবং modifying এর ভিত্তিতে adjective প্রধানত দুই প্রকার।
1. Attributive Adjective:
- এরা সাধারণত noun এর পূর্বে বসে noun এর attribute বা দোষ,গুন প্রকাশ করে।
- যেমন: Akash is an intelligent boy.

2. Predicate Adjective:
- এরা সাধারণত verb এরপরে বসে noun বা pronoun এর দোষ, গুন, অবস্থা ইত্যাদি প্রকাশ করে থাকে।
- যেমন: Akash is intelligent.

• সুতরাং, বোঝা যাচ্ছে যাচ্ছে, প্রশ্নোক্ত বাক্যটি একটি attributive adjective, কারণ এটি noun word curry এর পূর্বে বসে তাকে মডিফাই করেছে।

• অন্যদিকে, 
• Proper Adjective:
- Proper noun থেকে proper adjective হয়।
- যেমন - Asian, African, etc.

• Pronominal adjective:
কোনো Pronoun যখন Noun এর আগে বসে adjective এর কাজ করে তখন তাকে Pronominal adjective বলে।
- Pronoun থেকে এসেছে বলে এসব adjective এর নাম Pronominal adjective.
- Modern English এ এদেরকে Determiner ও বলা হয়ে থাকে।
- যেমন - My name is Ozymandias, king of kings.
- এখানে, My দ্বারা name noun কে modify করছে। তাই এটি Pronominal Adjective.
