• Doctor Zhivago:
- ‘Doctor Zhivago’ is a Novel by - Boris Pasternak.
- ১৯৫৭ সালে ইটালিতে এই উপন্যাসটি প্রকাশিত হয়। 
- ১৯১৭ সালের রুশ বিপ্লবের পটভূমিতে এই উপন্যাসের কাহিনী রচিত। বিপ্লব এবং বিপ্লব পরবর্তী সময়ে একটি বুর্জোয়া পরিবারের উপর নেমে আসা বিভিন্ন পরিণতি এর উপজীব্য বিষয়। 
- কেন্দ্রীয় চরিত্র:  Dr. Yury Zhivago এবং তার প্রেমিকা Lara. 

কাহিনী সংক্ষেপ: 
- Dr. Zhivago পেশায় ডাক্তার হলেও তিনি ছিলেন একজন কবি এবং দার্শনিকও। রুশ বিপ্লবের গোড়ার দিকের নৃশংসতা তাকে অস্থির করে তোলে। তার স্ত্রীর নাম  Tonya।
- যুদ্ধের মাঝে রোগী দেখতে গিয়ে তার সাথে পরিচয় হয় Lara এর। প্রায় প্রথম দেখা থেকেই তিনি তার প্রেমে পড়েন। 
- অপরদিকে Lara এর জীবন বিপর্যস্ত প্রেম, বিরহ আর চাপা দীর্ঘশ্বাসে। তারে বিয়ে হয় Pavel এর সাথে। যে বয়সে তরুণ এবং বিপ্লবী দলের নেতা। 
- নানা ঘটনাপ্রবাহে Dr. Zhivago  এবং Lara বারবার এক মোহনায় এসে মিলিত হয়। 

Boris Pasternak (1890-1960)
বিংশ শতকের অন্যতম জনপ্রিয় রুশ সাহিত্যিক। 
তার রচিত ইন্টারন্যাশনাল বেস্ট সেলার ’Doctor Zhivago’ উপন্যাসটি তাকে বিশ্বব্যাপী খ্যাতি এনে দেয় এবং এর জন্য তিনি ১৯৫৮ সালের নোবেল সাহিত্য পুরস্কার পান।

• Amerika:
- It is a novel written by - Franz Kafka.
- এটি ১৯১২ সাল থেকে ১৯১৪ সালের মধ্যে লেখা এবং লেখকের মৃত্যুর ৩ বছর পর প্রকাশিত হয়।
- এটি একটি অসমাপ্ত উপন্যাস।

• Ode  (poetic form)
- An exalted lyric poem that begins with an address to someone.
- ode, a ceremonious poem on an occasion of public or private dignity in which personal emotion and general meditation are united. 
- এই ধরনের কবিতার মধ্যবর্তী ভাগে তীব্র মনঃকষ্ট সঞ্চারিত হতে দেখা যায়, যেটি পাঠক এবং লেখক দুইপক্ষকেই  প্রাভাবিত করে।
- এর শেষ হয় consolation অর্থাৎ সান্ত্বনা; প্রবোধ ইত্যাদির মধ্য দিয়ে।
- এটি মূলত lofty style অনুসরন করে লেখা হয়।
- এই ধরনের কবিতার বিষয়বস্তু খুব গুরুগম্ভীর হয় এবং it's tone is grave.

• Odes are three types - 
- The Pindaric ode / regular ode
- The Horatian ode
- The irregular ode.

• Famous Odes in English Literature:
1. Ode to a Nightingale, Ode on a Grecian Urn, Ode to Autumn by John Keats.

• Soliloquy:
- A dramatic technique of speaking alone on stage.
- A long, usually serious spoken discourse that a character i play delivers to an audience and that reveals the character's thoughts.
- A passage in a drama in which a character expresses his thoughts or feelings aloud while either alone upon the stage or with the other actors keeping silent.
- It is a dramatic technique of exposing to the audience the intentions, thoughts and feelings of a character who speaks to himself.

- When a speaker speaks his thoughts aloud it is called Soliloquy.
- নাটকের কোন চরিত্র যখন নিজেই নিজের সাথে কথা বলে তার মনের ভাব প্রকাশ করে এবং অন্যরা নীরব থাকে, তখন তাকে Soliloquy বলে।
- Example: To be or not to be soliloquy in Hamlet by Shakespeare.

• Melodrama: (আবেগ প্রধান নাটক)
- A kind of drama that provides sensational entertainment and presents horror and bloodshed, thrills and violence on the stage.
- However, it ends with happiness.
- It is an extravagant drama in which action is more salient than characterization.
- In other words, 'Melodrama' is a kind of play with violent and sensational themes.
- Melodrama means a sensational dramatic piece with exaggerated characters and exciting events intended to appeal to the emotions or a play interspersed with songs and orchestral music accompanying the action.
- যে নাটকে আবেগ, উত্তেজনার উপাদান পর্যাপ্ত পরিমাণে থাকবে; পাশাপাশি সংঘাত ও দ্বন্দ্বের উপস্থিতিও দৃশ্যমান এই নাটকগুলোতে ।
