A service is an activity or performance that creates value without transferring ownership; the customer leaves with an outcome or experience (e.g., a correct bank transfer, a restful hotel stay), not a tangible asset. Because customers can’t “inspect” services beforehand, firms must reduce uncertainty using signals(brand, servicescape) and evidence (testimonials, guarantees) and orchestrate the service-specific 7Ps—especially People, Process, Physical Evidence—to make the intangible feel concrete.
