Question: A certain number of men can complete a piece of work in 180 days. If there are 30 men less, it will take 20 days more for the work to be completed. How many men were there originally?

Solution:
Let there be x men originally.
They were to complete the work in 180 days but as the number of persons is reduced to x - 30.
∴ Work takes 20 more days.
So the equation is
180x = (x - 30)200
⇒ 180x = 200x - 6000
⇒ 20x = 6000
⇒ x = 300.

Question: A man can walk a certain distance at a uniform speed in 100 days. How long will it take him to cover twice the distance at half the normal speed?

Solution:
Earlier time = 100 days.
Distance is doubled and speed is reduced to half.
∴ time will become 2 × 2 = 4 times.
Hence now it will take 100 × 4 = 400 days.

Question: 3 pumps, working 8 hours a day, can empty a tank in 2 days, How many hours a day must 4 pumps work to empty the tank in 1 day?

Solution:
3 pumps, working 8 hours a day, can empty a tank in 2 days
Formula used: M1 × T1 = M2 × T2
Where M1 and M2 is men and T1 and T2 is time

Calculation:
Let H hours be the number of hours required Applying the above formula
⇒ 3 × 8 × 2 = 4 × 1 × H
⇒ H = 48/4
⇒ H = 12 hours

∴ 4 pump need to work 12 hours to complete the work in 1 day.

Question: If 8 spiders make 8 webs in 8 days, then 1 spider will make 1 web in how many days?

Solution:
8 spiders make 8 webs in 8 days
1 spiders make 1 webs in (8 ×8)/8 days
= 8 days

Question: 39 persons can repair a road in 12 days, working 5 hours a day. In how many days will 30 persons, working 6 hours a day, complete the work?

Solution:

Question: If 25 men can build a wall 70 meters long in 6 days, what length of a similar wall can be built by 35 men in 3 days?

Solution:
In 6 days 25 men can build 70 meters
∴ In 1 day 1 man can build 70/(6 × 25) meters.
∴ In  3 days 35 men can build (70 × 35 × 3)/(6 × 25) meters.
 = 49 meters.

Question: A contractor undertakes to do a piece of work in 40 days. He engages 100 men at the beginning and 100 more  after 35 days and completes the work in stipulated time. If he had not  engaged  the additional men, how many days  behind schedule would it be finished?

Solution:
[(100 × 35) + (200 × 5)]men can finish the work in 1 day
Therefore,
4500 men can finish the work in 1 day.
100 men can finish it in 4500/100 = 45 days.

∴ This is 5 days behind Schedule

Question: If 6 men can complete a task in 10 days, how long will it take for 15 men to complete the same task?

Solution:
Formula used: M1 × T1 = M2 × T2
Where M1 and M2 is men and T1 and T2 is time

∴ 6 × 10 = 15 × t
⇒ t = 60/15
∴ t = 4 days

Question: A and B together can complete a job in 12 days. B alone can complete the job in 20 days. In how many days can A alone complete the job?

Solution:
Let A's time to complete the job alone be x days.
Work rate: 1/x + 1/20 = 1/12
⇒ (20 + x)/20x = 1/12
⇒ 240 + 12x = 20x
⇒ 8x = 240
∴ x = 30

Question: If 8 machines can produce 240 units in 6 days, how many units can 12 machines produce in 4 days?

Solution:
In 6 days 8 machines can produce 240 units
In 4 days 12 machines can produce (240 × 4 × 12)/(6 × 8) units
= 240 units

Question: If 10 men can dig a pit in 8 days, how many men are required to dig half the pit in 4 days?

Solution:

= ৩০ জন

Question: In a camp, there is a meal for 120 men or 200 children. If 150 children have taken the meal, how many men will be catered to with remaining meal?

Solution:
Camp has = 200 children
Already have taken meal  = 150 children

Remaining children to take meal = 200 - 150 = 50 children

the camp has meal for 200 children = 120 men
the camp has meal for 1 children = 120/200 men
the camp has meal for 50 children = (120 × 50)/200 men
= 30 men
