♦ Doctor Faustus:
- এটি  Christopher Marlowe লিখিত একটি tragedy.
- Doctor Faustus নাটকে Marlowe, Faustus এর জীবনের কাহিনী বর্ণনা করেন।
- Faustus ছিলেন একজন Doctor যিনি পরে জাদুকরে পরিণত হন।
- তিনি শয়তানের সাথে এমন একটি চুক্তি করেন যাতে করে তিনি জ্ঞান ও শক্তি প্রাপ্ত হতে পারেন।

- Mephistopheles ছিলেন Faustus এবং Lucifer এর মধ্যস্থতাকারী।
- এভাবে Faustus তার আত্মার বিক্রির মাধ্যমে ২৪ বছরে ক্ষমতাপূর্ণ একটি জীবন লাভ করে।
- এই সময়কালে সে তার এই ক্ষমতার অনেক ব্যবহার ও অপব্যবহার করতে থাকেন।

- কিন্তু জীবনের শেষ দিনে এসে তিনি খুবই ভীত সন্ত্রস্ত হয়ে পরেন এবং তার জীবন ভিক্ষা চাইতে থাকেন।
- তিনি তার কৃত কর্মের জন্য অনেক অনুতপ্ত বোধ করেন।
- তবে তখন আর কোন লাভ হয় না কারণ ততোদিনে অনেক দেরি হয়ে যায়।
- সেই মধ্যরাতে শয়তানের অতিথিসেবক আসে এবং Faustus এর আত্মা তার সাথে করে নরকে নিয়ে যায়।

- এই যুগটি Queen Elizabeth-I এর নামে নামকরণ করা হয়েছে।
- একে English Literature এর স্বর্ণযুগ বলা হয়।
- এই যুগেই ইংরেজী সাহিত্যের সবচেয়ে বেশী বিকাশ ঘটেছিলো।
- বিশেষ করে নাট্যজগতে এক বৈপ্লবিক সংস্কার সাধিত হয়েছিল।
- চার্চের আধিপত্য থেকে ধীরে ধীরে মুক্ত হয়ে সাহিত্য রচনা শুরু হয়েছিল। 
- Christopher Marlowe, William Shakespeare, Thomas Kyd, Thomas Norton, Francis Bacon, etc are a famous literary figure of this period.

 ♦ George Chapman:
- তিনি Homer এর “Illiad” ও “Odyssey” ইংরেজীতে অনুবাদ করেন।
- The first books of his translation of the Iliad appeared in 1598.
- It was completed in 1611, and his version of the Odyssey appeared in 1616.
- Chapman’s Homer contains passages of great power and beauty and inspired the sonnet of John Keats “On First Looking into Chapman’s Homer” (1815).
- এই সাহিত্য কর্ম গুলো থেকে অনুপ্রাণিত হয়ে Romantic Period এর কবি John Keats রচনা করেছিলেন On First Looking into Champman's Homer.

• George Chapman was born in 1559 in England.
- English dramatist and poet এর পাশাপাশি তিনি ছিলেন একজন প্রথিতযশা অনুবাদক।

♦ Cavalier poets: 
-A group of lyric poets associated with the Cavaliers are called Cavalier Poets.
- তাদেরকে Sons of Ben ও বলা হতো।
- কারণ তারা ছিলেন সাহিত্যিক Ben Jonson এর অনুগামী।

• They are:
-Richard Lovelace,
-Sir John Suckling,
-Robert Herrick,
-Thomas Carew,
-Edmund Waller. 

• সুতরাং দেখা যাচ্ছে, অপশনে প্রদত্ত চারজন সাহিত্যিকের মধ্যে ব্যতিক্রম হলেন Thomas Hobbes; কেবলমাত্র ‍তিনিই এখানে  Cavalier poets এর অন্তর্ভুক্ত নন।

- এ মহাকাব্যের মূল বিষয়বস্তু হলো Patriotism.
- একে epic poem ও বলা হয়। 

• Edmund Spenser:
- তিনি একজন English poet.
- তার long allegorical poem, 'The Faerie Queene' is one of the greatest in the English literature.

♦ Othello:
- এটি Shakespeare রচিত একটি Tragedy.
- It tells the story of Othello, A moor of Venice.
- নাটকটির মূল চরিত্র Othello. সে ছিল ভেনিসের একজন সেনাপতি।
- এই tragedy এর কেন্দ্রীয় চরিত্র Othello এবং Othello এর Desdemona হচ্ছে নায়িকা।
- Villan চরিত্রে ছিল Iago.

- এই ট্রাজেডি নাটকটি প্রেম আর বিশ্বাসঘাতকতার উপাখ্যান দিয়ে।
- Othello তার প্রধান সহকারী নিযুক্ত করে Cassio কে। এতে ঈর্ষান্বীত হয় আরেক সেনাপতি Iago ।
- সে তার স্ত্রী Emilia এর সহায়তায় ষড়যন্ত্র করে এবং Othello কে ভুল বুঝাতে সক্ষম হয়।
- তারা Othello কে বলে, যে তার স্ত্রী Cassio এর সাথে অবৈধ প্রণয়ে লিপ্ত।
- প্রমান স্বরুপ তারা একটি রুমাল দেখায় যা Cassio এর ঘরে পাওয়া যায়, আর এই রুমালটি Othello তার স্ত্রীকে দিয়েছিলো।
- ক্রোধে অন্ধ হয়ে সে তার স্ত্রীকে হত্যা করে, অপরদিকে সত্যটা জানার পর Othello নিজের বুকে ছুরি চালিয়ে আত্মহত্যা করে।

- এটি Thomas More রচিত একটি fiction ও socio-political satire. 
- 'Utopia' রচনা করে 'Thomas More' বিখ্যাত হয়ে আছেন। 
- এটি রচনার কাল ১৫১৬ খ্রিস্টাব্দ। 
- তিনি 'Utopia' লিখেছেন ল্যাটিন ভাষায়। 
- 'Utopia' গ্রিক অর্থ হচ্ছে কোথাও না।
-  অর্থাৎ কোথাও কোনোদিন যা ছিল না।
- এর দ্বারা একটি কাল্পনিক দ্বীপকে বোঝানো হয়।
- বইটির কাহিনী দুইটি ভাগে বিভক্ত।
- Thomas More এর এই লেখার উপর ভিত্তি করে পরবর্তী তে সাহিত্যে একটি নতুন genre - Utopian fiction তৈরি হয়েছে।

- তিনি ছিলেন Shakespeare এর আগের একজন অন্যতম লেখক।
- তিনি মধ্য যুগের কবি।
- তাকে বলা হয় "Father of Modern English Poetry".
- তার নামানুসারে Age of Chaucer(1340-1400) নামকরণ করা হয়।
- The Canterbury Tales ranks as one of the greatest poetic works in English.
- Chaucer is known as the representative poet of the 14th century.
