Linking Verb হচ্ছে যা দিয়ে কোনো Action বোঝায় না, বরং এটা Subject ও Predicate এর মধ্যে একটা Link তৈরি করে দেয় এবং এক্ষেত্রে Predicate - Subject এর দোষ, গুণ, অবস্থা, পেশা ইত্যাদি বর্ণনা করে।
এখানে went দিয়ে হাতিটার অবস্থা বুঝানো হয়েছে। তাই এটা Linking Verb.
''He is in hospital right now'' = He is being treated as an admitted patient.
''He is at the hospital right now'' = he is a visitor, outpatient or staff.
The situation having been unfavourable - এর মধ্যে কোন Finite Verb (Tense অনুযায়ী Verb) নেই।
তাই পুরো বাক্যের মধ্যে Clause আছে একটি (we returned home)। তাই এটি Simple Sentence.
বাক্যের অর্থ – পরিস্থিতি প্রতিকূল হয়ে যাওয়ায় আমরা বাড়িতে ফিরে এলাম।
One of the থাকলে Positive করার Structure হচ্ছে:
Very few + Superlative এর পরের Plural Noun + Plural Verb + as + Positive Degree + as + Subject of the sentence with Superlative Degree.
যে clause দ্বারা verb সংঘটিত হওয়ার ধরন/ পদ্ধতি বুঝায় তাকে Adverb Clause of Manner বলে।
বাক্যের অর্থ : তুমি যেভাবে পছন্দ কর, ভ্রমণ করতে পারো।
The correct sentence is - The books which/that were written by him are treasures for his countrymen.
(Those হচ্ছে Demonstrative Pronoun ‘that’ এর বহুবচন, কিন্তু এখানে বাক্যের চাহিদা অনুযায়ী Relative Pronoun- which/that বসবে।
মনে রাখতে হবে Relative Pronoun হিসেবে that এর বহুবচনও that.
The correct sentences -
Thirteen years is Jim’s age. (বয়স, টাকা ইত্যাদি একক সমষ্টি বুঝালে Singular হয়।)
- Each boy and each girl of this class is punctual. (each, every প্রত্যেককে আলাদা করে বুঝায়। তাই এগুলো সব সময় Singular হয়। এমনকি and দিয়ে যুক্ত হলেও singular ই থাকে।)
- That the rich are not always happy are known to all. (Clause – Subject হলে এর পরের Verb সব সময় Singular হয়।)
- Teaching the students in an unconventional but easier way was my motto. (Gerundial Phrase – Subject হলে এর পরের Verb সব সময় Singular হয়।)
