• 1660–1785-time frame is known as 'The Neoclassical Period' of English Literature.
- The Neoclassical Period তিনটি ছোট যুগ বা period নিয়ে গঠিত। 
1. The Restoration Period (1660-1700)
2. The Augustan Age (1702-1745)
3. The Age of Sensibility (1745-1785)
 
• The Neoclassical Period কে Neoclassical বা Pseudo-classical Age ও বলা হয়ে থাকে।
- Pseudo অর্থ ছদ্ম বা নকল, এই Pseudo দ্বারা এই যুগের লেখকদের artificiality বোঝানো হয়েছে।
- কারন তারা লেখালেখির ক্ষেত্রে ancient Greek and Roman সাহিত্য নির্দেশনা কে অনুসরণ করলেও Greek and Roman লেখকেদের originality Neoclassical যুগের লেখকদের মধ্যে অনুপস্থিত।
- এই যুগের Literary ideal ছিল art's for man's sake, যেখানে human being কে সবথেকে বেশি গুরুত্ব দেয়া হয়েছে।

• Restoration period:
- ১৬৬০ সালে এই যুগের শুরু এবং ১৭০০ সালে এর সমাপ্তি ঘটে।
- This period is called the Restoration Period because in this period, with the Restoration Monarchy, the English literary tradition was resorted. 
- John Dryden হচ্ছেন The Restoration Period  এর বিখ্যাত English poet, dramatist and literary critic, যিনি তাঁর সময়ের সাহিত্যিক প্রেক্ষাপটে এতটাই আধিপত্য বিস্তার করেছিলেন যে এই যুগটিকে the Age of Dryden হিসেবেও ধরা হয়।

- George Farquhar, etc.

• The Augustan Age
- 1702-1745, time frame is known as The Augustan Age.
-  The Augustan age is also known/called as the Age of Pope.
- কারন এই যুগে অন্যতম সাহিত্যিক ছিলেন Alexander Pope যিনি এই যুগে তাঁর লেখনীর দ্বারা আধিপত্য বিস্তার করেছিলেন।

• The Age of Sensibility
- 1745-1785, time frame is known as the Age of Sensibility.
- অর্থাৎ, এই যুগের সূচনা হয়েছিল ১৭৪৫ সালে।
-  The Age of Sensibility (১৭৪৫-১৭৮৫)-কে The Age of Johnsongও বলা হয় কারণ Dr. Samuel Johnson এই সময়টাকে dominate করেছেন।
- তাই, তাঁর নাম অনুসারে এই সময়টাকে Age of Johnson বলা হয়।

• University Wits:
- Elizabethan Period - এর একদল নাট্যকার (Dramatist) - কে একত্রে University Wits বলা হয়।
- এই নাট্যকারদের প্রায় সবাই Oxford বা Cambridge University এর গ্রাজুয়েট।
- তারা তাদের লেখনীতে গতানুগতিক ধারা পরিহার করে বৈচিত্র্য ও সমসাময়িক আধুনিকতা আনায়ন করেন।

• The Spanish Tragedy: 
- এটি Thomas Kyd রচিত।
- The Spanish Tragedy is the first Revenge Tragedy.
- Revenge Tragedy is a kind of tragedy that presents a quest for vengeance and results in bloodshed and mutilation.
- সাধারণত Senecan tragedy কে অনুসরণ করে revenge tragedy লেখা হয়।
- Thomas Kyd এর 'The Spanish Tragedy" এর মাধ্যমে তাঁর যুগে অর্থাৎ Elizabethan Period এ revenge tragedy জনপ্রিয়তা লাভ করে।
- The famous play 'The Spanish Tragedy' belongs to The Elizabethan period.

• Thomas Kyd (1557 – 1595):
- English dramatist. 
- তিনি Elizabethan Period এর একজন লেখক।
- He is one of the members of University Wit.

• His notable work:
– The Spanish Tragedy (1585).

• A Midsummer Night’s Dream:
- এটি উইলিয়াম শেক্সপিয়ারের একটি জনপ্রিয় কমেডি নাটক।
- 5 acts বিশিষ্ট এই comedy টি ১৫৯৫-৯৬ সালের দিকে লেখা এবং ১৬০০ সালে প্রকাশিত হয়।
- নাটকের মূল কাহিনীটি আথেন্সের শাসক Theseus এবং অ্যামাজন রানী Hippolyta এর বিয়ের প্রস্তুতি থেকে শুরু হয়।
- নাটকের দুই প্রধান প্রেমিক যুগল, হেরমিয়া এবং লিসান্ডার প্রেমে বাধা সৃষ্টি হয় যখন হেরমিয়ার বাবা তাকে ডেমেট্রিয়াসের সঙ্গে বিয়ে করতে বলে।
- The play is set in Athens and consists of several subplots that revolve around the marriage of Theseus and Hippolyta. One subplot involves a conflict between four Athenian lovers.
- Another follows a group of six amateur actors rehearsing the play which they are to perform before the wedding.

- জন্মস্থান Stratford Avon.
- তিনি একাধারে একজন English poet, dramatist এবং actor.
- তাকে English national poet বলা হয়।
- তাকে 'Bard of Avon' বলা হয়।
- He is considered by many to be the greatest dramatist of all time.

• Cavalier poets: 
- A group of lyric poets associated with the Cavaliers are called Cavalier Poets.
- তাদেরকে Sons of Ben ও বলা হতো।
- কারণ তারা ছিলেন সাহিত্যিক Ben Jonson এর অনুগামী।

• The Duchess of Malfi
- এটি একটি 5 acts বিশিষ্ট tragedy play যা Revenge Tragedy/ Tragedy of Suffering হিসেবে পরিচিত।
- এটি ১৬১৩-১৪ সালে লেখা এবং ১৬২৩ সালে প্রকাশিত হয়। 
- The Duchess of Malfi tells the story of the spirited duchess and her love for her trustworthy steward Antonio.
- তার দুই ভাই Ferdinand (ক্যালাব্রিয়ার ডিউক) এবং Cardinal বিরোধিতা সত্ত্বেও তারা গোপনে বিয়ে করে।
- পরবর্তীতে তাদের তিনটি সন্তান জন্ম নেয়  কিন্তু জিজ্ঞাসাবাদের মুখে তিনি কখনো তাঁর ভাইদের কাছে তাঁর বাচ্চাদের নাম বলেন নি।
- Duchess এর ভাইয়েরা সকল খবর বের করার জন্য তার বিরুদ্ধে Bosola নামক একজন গোয়েন্দা ( Bosola) নিযুক্ত করে।
-  Bosola বিভিন্ন কৌশলে Dutchess এর কাছ থেকে তাড় স্বামি সন্তানদের খবর জেনে তার ভাইদেরকে বলে দেয় এবং তাদের আদেশে এদেরকে গ্রেফতার করতে যায়।
- নাটকের শেষে দেখা যায় সবাই মারা গিয়েছে কেবল মাত্র Dutchess এর বড় সন্তানটি ছাড়া যে কিনা পরবর্তীতে Malfi এর শাসক হয়।
- Webster’s The Duchess of Malfi কে সচরাচর last great tragedy of the Elizabethan and Jacobean eras হিসেবে বিবেচনা করা হয়।

- তিনি একজন English Dramatist.

• William Shakespeare authored the poem 'Phoenix and Turtle'.
- কবিতাটি শেক্সপিয়ার রচিত একটি long poem যেটি 'The Phoenix and the Turtle' হিসেবেও পরিচিত। 
- এটি একটি গভীর ও রূপকধর্মী রচনা। এটি প্রথম প্রকাশিত হয় ১৬০১ সালে এবং এটি শেক্সপিয়ারের সবচেয়ে দুর্বোধ্য কবিতাগুলোর একটি হিসেবে বিবেচিত। 
- এটি প্রথম প্রকাশিত হয় Robert Chester's Love's Martyr বইয়ে, যেখানে শেক্সপিয়ারসহ অন্যান্য কবিদের কবিতা সংকলিত ছিল।
- The poem comprises 13 quatrains followed by five triplets, culminating in a conclusion. It uses formal language, paradox, and metaphysical imagery to explore its themes.

• এই কবিতায় ফিনিক্স হচ্ছে অমরত্ব, পুনর্জন্ম এবং নিখুঁততার প্রতীক এবং কচ্ছপ (টার্টল-ডোভ) হচ্ছে একনিষ্ঠতা, বিশ্বাস এবং বিশুদ্ধ প্রেমের প্রতীক।এই দুই পাখি প্রেমের এমন এক আদর্শকে উপস্থাপন করে যেখানে তাদের আলাদা পরিচয় বিলীন হয়ে যায়। কবিতাটি প্রেম ও সত্যের আদর্শিক ধারণার ওপর ভিত্তি করে লেখা হয়েছে, যেখানে ফিনিক্স এবং কচ্ছপ (টার্টল-ডোভ) পাখিদের মাধ্যমে এই বিষয়গুলোকে রূপক আকারে উপস্থাপন করা হয়েছে।

• William Shakespeare:
- তার জন্মস্থান Stratford Avon.
- তিনি একাধারে একজন English poet, dramatist এবং actor.
- তাকে English national poet বলা হয়।

• William Shakespeare মূলত তাঁর Drama and Sonnet এর জন্য পরিচিত। 
- তিনি মোট ১৫৪ টি sonnet এবং ৩৭ টি play লিখেছেন।

• Apart from these sonnets,
- Shakespeare 1593 সালে 'Venus and Adonis' ও 1594 সালে 'The Rape of Lucrece' তার দুটি Long narrative poem প্রকাশ করেন।
- এছাড়াও 'The Phoenix and Turtle' ও 'A Lover's Complaint' তার লিখিত দুটি Long poem.

• The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle:
- It is the earliest prose of English Literature.
- It was composed by King Alfred the Great.
- তিনি ইংরেজ জাতির ইতিহাস 'The Anglo Saxon Chronicle' রচনা শুরু করেন এবং তাঁর মৃত্যুর পর আড়াইশো বছর ধরে এই গ্রন্থ রচিত হতে থাকে।
- 'The Anglo Saxon Chronicle' ইংরেজি সাহিত্যের ইতিহাসে প্রথম ইতিহাসের প্রথম গদ্যরচনা অর্থাৎ prose.

• King Alfred the Great:  
- Alfred the King কে founder of prose বলা হয়
- He prevented England from falling to the Danes and promoted learning and literacy.

• Notable work:
- The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle

• To His Coy Mistress:
- বিখ্যাত Metaphysical Poet, Andrew Marvell রচিত এই কবিতাটি ১৬৮১ সালে প্রকাশিত হয়েছিল।
- ৪৬ লাইনের এটি একটি Metaphysical poem.
- কবিতাটি প্রেম এবং সময়ের মধ্যে প্রচলিত দ্বন্দ্বের বিষয়বস্তুকে মজাদার এবং বিদ্রুপাত্মক ভাবে তুলে ধরেছে।
-The poet opens by telling his mistress that, given all the time in the world, he would spend hundreds of years praising each part of her body, while she could spend hundreds of years refusing his advances.

• Andrew Marvell:
- তিনি Jacobean period এর একজন বিখ্যাত কবি।
- তিনি একজন বিখ্যাত Metaphysical Poet.
