• প্রদত্ত বাক্যটি:  "Neither the teacher nor the students were ready for the test."

• "Neither...nor" যুক্ত বাক্যে verb টি মূলত কাছের/ শেষের noun অনুযায়ী নির্ধারিত হয়।

এখানে,
"the students" হলো plural noun, তাই plural verb (were) ব্যবহৃত হবে।

সে অনুসারে পূর্ণ বাক্যটি হবে:
"Neither the teacher nor the students were ready for the test."

• শূন্যস্থানে সঠিক উত্তর হবে - are.
- Complete sentence: Three-fourths of the students are present.

➤ ভগ্নাংশ of + plural noun + plural verb
Example:
Three-fourths of the students are present.

• সাধারণত ভগ্নাংশের ক্ষেত্রে প্রথমটি One এর বেশি হলে দ্বিতীয়টির সঙ্গে 's' যোগ হয় (যেমন- Two-thirds/ Three-fifths).
- কিন্তু প্রথমটি One হলে দ্বিতীয়টির সঙ্গে 's' যোগ হয় না  (যেমন- One-third)।
- আবার সব ধরনের ভগ্নাংশের পরে noun - singular হলে verb - singular এবং noun - plural হলে verb - plural হয়।

• Grammer rules:
বইয়ের নাম, গল্প, নাটক, টেলিভিশন অনুষ্ঠান, সংবাদপত্র, ম্যাগাজিন, দেশ, সংস্থা ইত্যাদি Noun গুলো Plural রূপে থাকলেও এদের পরের Verb টি সব সময় Singular Number এ হবে।

Rules অনুসারে শূন্যস্থানে 'is' বসবে।
তাই, বাক্যটি হবে - 
The Arabian Nights (is) still a great favorite.

• Subject-Verb-Agreement rules:
- Ethics, Economics, Politics, news, gallows ইত্যাদি noun-গুলো দেখতে plural হলেও এরা মূলত singular এবং এরপর verb singular হবে।
- Ethics, Economics, Politics, Mathematics ইত্যাদি যদি কোনো Subject এর নাম বুঝায় তবে এর পর Singular verb বসবে।

যেমন:
- Ethics is the branch of philosophy dealing with moral principles.
অর্থ্যাৎ, 
Ethics এখানে singular subject হিসাবে ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে। তাই, verb টিও singular হবে।

Plural Subject এবং Plural Verb-এর নিয়ম ও উদাহরণ:
- Plural Subject সাধারণত একাধিক ব্যক্তি, বস্তুর নাম বা কোনো বিষয়কে নির্দেশ করে এবং এর সাথে Plural Verb ব্যবহৃত হয়।
- Plural Verb-এর সাথে কখনো s/es যুক্ত হয় না।

সুতরাং, বাক্যটি - 
The books on the table belong to me.
এখানে,
"The books" Plural Subject, তাই Plural Verb "belong" ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে। এখানে Verb-এর সাথে কখনো s/es যুক্ত হয় না।

• Rule:
- As though/ as if/ wish থাকলে to be এর জায়গায় 'were' বসে। 

• তাই সঠিক উত্তরটি হবে: 
"She acts as if she were a queen"

• And দ্বারা যুক্ত Singular Noun-এর ক্ষেত্রে Subject-Verb Agreement নিয়ম:
- যখন singular noun-গুলোর প্রত্যেকটির আগে each, every, বা no থাকে, তখন এর পরবর্তী verb এবং pronoun উভয়ই singular হয়।কারণ each, every, বা no প্রতিটি noun-কে পৃথক পৃথক সত্তা হিসেবে বিবেচনা করে।
যেমন-
Every man and every woman wants a better future.
(প্রত্যেক পুরুষ এবং নারী একটি ভালো ভবিষ্যৎ চায়।)

এখানে,
"Every man and every woman" একটি singular subject হিসেবে বিবেচিত হয়। কারণ "every" প্রতিটি ব্যক্তিকে আলাদাভাবে নির্দেশ করে। তাই, এর সাথে singular verb ব্যবহার করতে হবে। এজন্য Subject Third person Singular Number হওয়ায় - verb এর সাথে s/es যুক্ত করতে হবে।

The correct answer is: গ) were
Complete sentence: We saw that many birds were bathing in the river.

এখানে,
"Many birds" - একটি plural subject, তাই verb ও plural হবে। তাই, সঠিক verb টি হবে - "were."

• Adjective-এর নিয়ম অনুযায়ী,
- Many/ a great many/ a good many এর পরে Noun/pronoun ও verb- plural হয়।

• কিন্তু many a/an এর পর noun/pronoun ও verb- singular হয়।
- Example: Many a man was listening to him

• Collective Nouns-এর নিয়ম এবং উদাহরণ:
- Collective nouns যেমন: a flock of birds, a school of fish, a herd of cattle, a pride of lions, a pack of dogs—এগুলো একটি গোষ্ঠী বা দলকে বোঝায়।
এদের সাথে সর্বদা singular verb ব্যবহৃত হয়, কারণ এরা একটি দল বা একক গোষ্ঠী হিসেবে কাজ করে।

উদাহরণ:
• A flock of birds is flying in the sky.
(একদল পাখি আকাশে উড়ছে।)

প্রদত্ত বাক্যটি - 
• A school of fish was swimming near the boat.
একদল মাছ নৌকার কাছে সাঁতার কাটছিল।
এখানে, 
"A school of fish" একটি collective noun, যা একসঙ্গে একটি দলকে বোঝায় এবং একবচন (singular) হিসেবে বিবেচিত হয়। Collective noun-এর সাথে সর্বদা singular verb ব্যবহৃত হয়। তাই এখানে সঠিক verb হবে "was".

সঠিক বাক্য:
"A school of fish was swimming near the boat."

• Rule:
- With, together with, as well as, along with, in addition to, accompanied by ইত্যাদি দ্বারা কোনো noun বা pronoun যুক্ত হলে, verb সর্বদা প্রথম subject-এর (main subject) সাথে মিল রেখে হবে।

উদাহরণ:
The students, along with their teacher, are attending the seminar.
প্রথম subject students (plural), তাই are ব্যবহার হয়েছে।

The teacher, as well as the students, is attending the seminar.
প্রথম subject teacher (singular), তাই is ব্যবহার হয়েছে।

"as well as" দ্বারা ২টি Subject যুক্ত হয়েছে। সুতরাং, verb টি প্রথম subject অনুযায়ী হতে হবে।

যেহেতু প্রথম subject (The Manager) Singular, তাই verb হবে Singular। তাই সঠিক উত্তর "is"।

বাক্যটি হবে:
The manager, as well as the employees, is responsible for the success.

• Grammar Rules:
- A lot of + Singular Noun + Singular Verb:

"A lot of" এর সাথে যদি একটি singular noun থাকে, তাহলে verb টি singular হয়।

সুতরাং, নিয়ম অনুসারে বাক্যটি হবে - 
"A lot of news in those papers is unreliable."

• Grammar Rule:
"One and a half" এর পরে plural noun থাকা সত্ত্বেও, verb টি singular হয়। এর কারণ হলো, "One and a half" একটি একক পরিমাণ বা একক বিষয় নির্দেশ করে, তাই verb singular হয়।
- One and a half + plural noun + singular verb.

সঠিক বাক্যটি হবে:
One and a half hours is a long time.
এখানে,
"hours" একটি plural noun হলেও, একত্রে "one and a half" একটি একক পরিমাণ বোঝায়। তাই, verb টি singular "is" হবে।

• Rule:
- With, together with, as well as, along with, in addition to, accompanied by ইত্যাদি দ্বারা কোনো noun বা pronoun যুক্ত হলে, verb সর্বদা প্রথম subject-এর (main subject) সাথে মিল রেখে হবে।

উদাহরণ:
The students, along with their teacher, are attending the seminar.
প্রথম subject students (plural), তাই are ব্যবহার হয়েছে।

The teacher, as well as the students, is attending the seminar.
প্রথম subject teacher (singular), তাই is ব্যবহার হয়েছে।

"along with" দ্বারা ২টি Subject যুক্ত হয়েছে। সুতরাং, verb টি প্রথম subject অনুযায়ী হতে হবে।

যেহেতু প্রথম subject (The doctor) Singular, তাই verb হবে Singular। তাই সঠিক verb হবে "is working".

বাক্যটি হবে:
The doctor, along with the nurses, is working hard during the night shift.

• Subject-Verb Agreement নিয়ম:
- One of, Each of, Either of যদি subject হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হয় তবে verb হবে singular form. 
অর্থ্যাৎ, 
Each of the students has a different opinion. (প্রত্যেক ছাত্রের আলাদা মতামত রয়েছে।)

এখানে,
"Each of the students" একটি singular subject হিসেবে কাজ করছে, যদিও "students" একটি plural noun, কিন্তু "each" শব্দটি যখন subject হিসেবে ব্যবহার হয়, তখন এটি একক (singular) অর্থে ব্যবহৃত হয়। অর্থাৎ, "each" প্রতিটি individual student কে আলাদাভাবে নির্দেশ করে, তাই verb এর সাথে singular form ব্যবহৃত হয়।
- (এখানে "each" এককভাবে একজন করে ছাত্রের কথা বলছে, তাই verb হবে "has")।

• And দ্বারা যুক্ত Singular Noun-এর ক্ষেত্রে Subject-Verb Agreement নিয়ম:
- যখন singular noun-গুলোর প্রত্যেকটির আগে each, every, বা no থাকে, তখন এর পরবর্তী verb এবং pronoun উভয়ই singular হয়।কারণ each, every, বা no প্রতিটি noun-কে পৃথক পৃথক সত্তা হিসেবে বিবেচনা করে।
যেমন-
Every man and every woman wants a better future.
(প্রত্যেক পুরুষ এবং নারী একটি ভালো ভবিষ্যৎ চায়।)

(কোনো ছাত্র বা শিক্ষক অন্যায় নীতিকে সমর্থন করে না।)

এক্ষেত্রে, "No student and no teacher" - এটি দুটি পৃথক ব্যক্তি (ছাত্র এবং শিক্ষক) হলেও, যেহেতু "no" উভয়ের সাথে যুক্ত, তাই এটি Singular হিসেবে গণ্য হবে, এবং verb এর সাথে s/es যুক্ত হবে।

• অতএব, সঠিক উত্তর হলো: No student and no teacher supports the unfair policy.

• প্রদত্ত বাক্যটি:  "Neither the doctor nor the nurse was available at the moment."

• "Neither...nor" যুক্ত বাক্যে verb টি মূলত কাছের/ শেষের noun অনুযায়ী নির্ধারিত হয়।

এখানে,
"the nurse" হলো Singular noun, তাই Singular verb (was) ব্যবহৃত হবে।

সে অনুসারে পূর্ণ বাক্যটি হবে:

• Grammer rules:
- যদি and দ্বারা যুক্ত subject-গুলো একই ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুকে নির্দেশ করে, তাহলে verb singular হবে।
- যদি and দ্বারা যুক্ত subject-গুলো ভিন্ন ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুকে নির্দেশ করে, তাহলে verb plural হবে।
যেমন-
একই ব্যক্তি বা বস্তু বোঝালে (Verb হয় Singular):
• Bread and butter is my favorite breakfast.
(এখানে 'bread and butter' একসাথে একটি খাবার বোঝাচ্ছে, তাই verb singular হয়েছে।)

ভিন্ন ব্যক্তি বা বস্তু বোঝালে (Verb হয় Plural):
• The principal and the teacher are addressing the students.
(এখানে principal এবং teacher দুই ভিন্ন ব্যক্তি বোঝাচ্ছে, তাই verb plural হয়েছে।)

• John and his brother have gone to the park.
(এখানে John এবং তার ভাই ভিন্ন ব্যক্তি, তাই verb plural।)

• Rule:

বাক্যটি হবে:
The principal, together with the teachers, is addressing the assembly. (অধ্যক্ষ, শিক্ষকদের সাথে, সমাবেশে ভাষণ দিচ্ছেন।)

A lot of + Plural Noun + Plural Verb:

যখন "a lot of" এর সাথে plural noun থাকে, তখন verb টি plural হয়।
উদাহরণ:
"A lot of books areon the table."

এখানে, "A lot of" এর সাথে বাক্যের "books" একটি (plural), তাই verb টিও (plural) হবে। সুতরাং, সঠিক verb হবে "are"।

তাই বাক্যটি হবে:
"A lot of books are on the table."
