• The Elizabethan Period (১৫৫৮–১৬০৩) ইংরেজি সাহিত্যের "Golden Age" হিসেবে পরিচিত। এই সময়টিতে ইংরেজি সাহিত্য অত্যন্ত সমৃদ্ধি লাভ করে, এবং অনেক মহান সাহিত্যিকের সৃষ্টি হয়।

• Elizabethan Age (1558-1603):
- এই যুগটি Queen Elizabeth I এর নামে নামকরণ করা হয়েছে।
- এই যুগেই ইংরেজী সাহিত্যের সবচেয়ে বেশী বিকাশ ঘটেছিলো।
- বিশেষ করে নাট্যজগতে এক বৈপ্লবিক সংস্কার সাধিত হয়েছিল।
- চার্চের আধিপত্য থেকে ধীরে ধীরে মুক্ত হয়ে সাহিত্য রচনা শুরু হয়েছিল।
- এই যুগকে বলা হয় The Golden Age কারণ এ যুগের আগের যুগের সাহিত্য ছিল অনুর্বর কিন্তু এ যুগে এসে সাহিত্য নতুন মাত্রা পায়।

• Tom Jones:
- এটি Henry Fielding রচিত। 
- Tom Jones, in full The History of Tom Jones, a Foundling হচ্ছে একটি comic novel.
- এটি ১৭৪৯ সালে প্রথম প্রকাশিত হয়।
- এটি একটি রোমান্স প্লটের উপরে লেখা।
- Tom Jones, Picaresque Novel এর অন্যতম উদাহরণ।
- নায়ক Tom Jones কে পরিত্যাগ করে পালিয়ে যায় তার বাবা মা ।
- অন্যের আশ্রয়ে বড় হয় নায়ক।

• Picaresque Novel:
- A novel that tells the story of a rascal or knave who moves from place to place for adventures and fights his evil antagonists is called - Picaresque Novel.
- অর্থাৎ, Picaresque Novel বলতে এমন ধরনের Novel বোঝায় যেখানে Novel এর প্রধান চরিত্র  একজন rascal or knave যে এক স্থান থেকে অন্য স্থানে adventures এর জন্য ঘুরে বেড়ায় এবং তার evil antagonist দের বিরুদ্ধে বিদ্রোহ করে।
- এই ধরনের Novel গুলো manner এর দিক থেকে realistic এবং aim এর দিক থেকে satiric. 

• Gothic Novel:
- A form of prose narrative which comprises wild and horrific incidents can be termed as Gothic Novel.

• Regional novel:
- A novel that depicts in its plot the customs, dialects and ways of life of a specific rural region.
- একজন novelist যিনি regional novel লিখেন তিনি সাধারণত একটি নির্দিষ্ট fictional region কে ভিত্তি করে লিখেন এবং তাঁর সকল novel এর settings এর জন্য সেটিকেই ব্যবহার করেন।

Shakespeare এর "Macbeth" নাটকটি ১৬০৫ সালের Gunpowder Plot দ্বারা প্রভাবিত হয়েছিল বলে মনে করা হয়।

• The GunPowder Plot ছিল ১৬০৫ সালে ইংল্যান্ডের রাজা James এর বিরুদ্ধে একটি  হত্যা এবং সংসদ উড়িয়ে দেয়ার একটি  ব্যর্থ প্রচেষ্টা। 
- ধারনা করা হয়  Shakespeare এর Macbeth এই প্লট থেকে অনুপ্রানিত হয়ে লেখা।
 
- কারন  Macbeth এর মুল Theme  রাজার বিরুদ্ধে হত্যা ,ষড়যন্ত্র, বিদ্রোহ এবং হত্যাকারীর পতনের সাথে সংযুক্ত যাকে ‘The GunPowder Plot’ এর সাথে relate করা হয়। 
 - প্রচলিত বিশ্বাস অনুযায়ী King James কে Macbeth tragedy এর অন্যতম চরিত্র  Banquo এর উত্তরাধিকার মনে করা হয় এবং Macbeth play তে এই Banquo এর বিরুদ্ধেই  Macbeth ষড়যন্ত্র করে এবং হত্যার চেষ্টা চালায়।

• Macbeth: 
- নাটকটির মূল বিষয়বস্তু হলো King Duncan এর হত্যা ও তার ফলে ঘটে যাওয়া ঘটনাবলি।
- এটি Shakespeare এর সবচেয়ে ছোট Tragedy.
- এই Tragedy টি হচ্ছে William Shakespeare এর অন্যতম শ্রেষ্ঠ tragedy এবং Macbeth হল এর মূল চরিত্র/ tragic hero.

Doctor Faustus নাটকে, Faustus তার আত্মাকে Lucifer এর কাছে বিক্রি করে এবং একটি চুক্তি করে যার মেয়াদ 24 বছর। এই সময়কালে Faustus নানা অদ্ভুত ক্ষমতা ও আনন্দ লাভ করে, তবে শেষমেশ তার চুক্তির মেয়াদ শেষ হয়ে যায় এবং তাকে চিরকাল নরকেপড়ার শাস্তি ভোগ করতে হয়।

• Doctor Faustus:
- নাটকটির পুরো নাম The Tragicall History of D. Faustus.
- ১৬০৪ সালে প্রকাশিত হওয়া এটি একটি 5 acts বিশিষ্ট একটি নাটক।
- ডক্টর ফস্টাস- এ মার্লো Faustus এর গল্প বলেছেন, যিনি ডাক্তার থেকে জাদুবিদ্যায় আগ্রহী হয়ে জ্ঞান ও ক্ষমতা অর্জনের জন্য শয়তানের সাথে চুক্তি করেন।
- In this play, Doctor Faustus and Mephistopheles, who is the devil’s intermediary in the play, are subtly and powerfully portrayed.
- এই নাটকে Mephistopheles হচ্ছে The embodiment of evil.
