Delta Governance Council:
The centennial ‘Bangladesh Delta Plan-2100’ adopted as a long-term strategy for river erosion, river management, water supply in urban and rural areas, lightning management and flood control and drainage management was approved at the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting on 4 September 2017. The Government of Bangladesh has adopted this plan to address the long-term challenges of climate change. Bangladesh is the largest deltaic country in the world and the Netherlands, another deltaic country in the world, is cooperating with Bangladesh in this project. ‘Bangladesh Delta Plan-2100’ is known as ‘Delta Plan-2100’. The Delta Governance Council was formed on June 29, 2020 to provide the necessary advice and guidance for the implementation of this plan. Subsequently, on July 1, 2020, the Cabinet Division formed a 12-member Council with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as Chairperson, Planning Minister as Vice-Chairman, Member of the General Economics Department of the Planning Commission as Member Secretary and Ministers of 9 Ministries as members.
