♦ Alliteration:
- The Repetition of a consonant at the beginning of two or more words or stressed syllables is called Alliteration.
- যখন পরস্পর সম্পর্কযুক্ত বা পাশাপাশি স্থাপিত শব্দের শুরুতে একই বর্ণ বা একই ধরনের উচ্চারণ থাকে তাকে অনুপ্রাস (Alliteration) বলে।

• Examples of Alliteration:
- 'Puffs, powders, patches, Bibles, billet-doux'. (Here 'p' has been repeated thrice and 'b' twice).
- Fair is foul, and foul is fair.
- A big bully beats a baby boy.
- She sells seashells by the seashore.

• অন্য অপশন গুলো:
- Aphorism: A terse, memorable expression of a universal truth.
- Anti-climax: যখন কোনো সিরিয়াস ঘটনা বা বক্তব্য থেকে তুচ্ছ ঘটনার দিকে মোড় নেয়, তখন সেটাকে anti-climax বলে।
- Allusion: Allusion, in literature, an implied or indirect reference to a person, event, or thing or to a part of another text.

♦ Anaphora:
- Repetition of a word or phrase at the beginnings of two or more successive verse lines, clauses, or more successive verse lines, clauses or sentences.
- অর্থাৎ কোন word অথবা phrase এর repetition হয় পর পর কোন verse এর শুরুতে তাকে Anaphora বলে।
- যেমন:
In Every cry of every man
In every Infant's cry of fear,
In every voice, in every ban,
The mind forg'd manacles I hear. 

• Writers use anaphora to emphasize the points they want to make.

♦ The Faerie Queen: 
- 1590 সালে এর প্রথম installment টি প্রকাশিত হয়। 
- এটি একটি religious-moral-political allegory.
- এই মহাকাব্যের নায়ক Red Cross Knight.
- এর নায়িকা Una.
- এ মহাকাব্যের মূল বিষয়বস্তু হলো Patriotism.
- একে epic poem ও বলা হয়। 

• Edmund Spenser:
- তিনি একজন English poet.
- তার long allegorical poem, 'The Faerie Queene' is one of the greatest in the English literature.

• Notable work:
- A View of the Present State of Ireland,
- Amoretti,
- Colin Clouts Come Home Again,
- Complaints,
- The Faerie Queene,
- The Shepheard's Calender.

♦ Fiction:
- Fiction narratives in prose.
- It may be based on facts but narrated with the color of imagination.
- It is different from factual reports. 
- All novels and short stories fall under this genre.
- Fables, parables fairy tales and folklore are not called fiction though there are fictional elements in each of them.

♦ Hymn:
- A lyric poem or songs in praise of God is called Hymn.
- সাধারণত এটি religious emotion প্রকাশের  উদ্দেশ্যে chorus দ্বারা গাওয়া।
- Edmund Spenser এর 'Foere Hymnes', and John Keats 'Hymn to Apollo' are some of the well-known hymns in English literature.
- Martin Luther’s “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God” and Shelly’s “Hymn of Apollo” are some of the well-known hymns in English.

♦ Pun or Paronomasia:
- A play upon words which are similar in sound but different in meaning.
অর্থাৎ pun হচ্ছে শব্দের এক মজার ব্যবহার যেখানে একটি শব্দ দুটি ভিন্ন অর্থে ব্যহৃত হয়।

• ইংরেজি সাহিত্যে বিভিন্ন সাহিত্যিকেরা তাদের লেখায় এমনকি তাদের লেখার শিরোনামেও Pun এর ব্যবহার করেছেন।
যেমন - 
- The title of Hemingway's famous novel, Farewell to Arms has a Pun on it.
- এখানে Arms দ্বারা যুদ্ধ বা অস্ত্রের পাশাপাশি প্রেমিকার হাতকেও বোঝানো হয়েছে।

♦ Allegory:
- It is a literary term in which one story is told in the guise of another story.
- In other words, an allegory is a story of double meaning.

- Bunyan’s Pilgrim’s Progress is a well-known allegory in prose which deals with the Christian notion of a soul’s salvation.
- Dryden’s Absalom and Achitophel is a political allegory.

♦ Soliloquy:
- A dramatic technique of speaking alone on stage.
- A long, usually serious spoken discourse that a character i play delivers to an audience and that reveals the character's thoughts.
- A passage in a drama in which a character expresses his thoughts or feelings aloud while either alone upon the stage or with the other actors keeping silent.
- It is a dramatic technique of exposing to the audience the intentions, thoughts and feelings of a character who speaks to himself.

- When a speaker speaks his thoughts aloud it is called Soliloquy.
- নাটকের কোন চরিত্র যখন নিজেই নিজের সাথে কথা বলে তার মনের ভাব প্রকাশ এবং অন্যরা নীরব থাকে, তখন তাকে Soliloquy বলে।
- Example: To be or not to be soliloquy in Hamlet by Shakespeare.

♦ "Ariel" চরিত্রটি Shakespeare এর The Tempest নাটক থেকে নেওয়া।

• The Tempest:
- এটি Shakespeare এর লিখিত একটি বিখ্যাত comedy.
- এটি 5-act এ বিভক্ত।
- Tempest শব্দটির অর্থ violent storm.
- এটিকে তার swan song বা last work বলা হয়।

•Some character names:
- Prospero,
- Miranda,
- Ariel,
- Caliban,
- Gonzalo etc.

• Shakespeare:
- তার জন্মস্থান Stratford Avon.
- তিনি একাধারে একজন English poet, dramatist এবং actor.
- তাকে English national poet বলা হয়।
- তাকে 'Bard of Avon' বলা হয়।
- He is considered by many to be the greatest dramatist of all time.

♦ Mock-epic:
- A narrative poem that aims at mockery and laughter by using almost all the characteristic features of an epic but for a trivial subject.
- The grand treatment of a low subject produces hilarious laughter and makes the story ridiculous.
- Pope's well-known poem, The Rape of the Lock is a famous mock-epic.

• Poetic Justice:
- Poetic justice, in literature, an outcome in which vice is punished and virtue rewarded, usually in a manner peculiarly or ironically appropriate.
- The natural judgment which gives the wicked his due punishment and the virtuous his due reward.
- অর্থাৎ, অপরাধী উপযুক্ত শাস্তি পাবে এবং সৎ ব্যক্তি ন্যায্য পুরস্কার পাবে এমন সুবিচার, যেমন কর্ম তেমন ফল।

• অধিক প্রচলিত এই প্রবাদটি Shakespeare' সর্বপ্রথম ব্যবহার করেন তার The Merchant of Venice নামক comedy তে।
- এই comedy এর heroine Portia এর একজন suitor, Prince of Morocco এই quotation এর speaker.
- এটি একটি Tragicomedy/problem play হিসেবে পরিচিত, যার কেন্দ্রীয় চরিত্র Shylock was a Jewish.

♦ 'Catherine, Lockwood and Cathay Linton' are the characters created by - Emily Bronte.
- These characters are from the famous literary work 'Wuthering Heights'.

• Wuthering Heights: 
- এটি প্রকাশিত হয় ১৮৪৭ সালে।
- এটি তার রচিত শ্রেষ্ঠ সাহিত্যকর্ম।
- প্রেম এবং প্রতিহিংসার অভূতপূর্ব সংমিশ্রণ এই উপন্যাসে দেখা যায়। 

• Summary and characters: 
- Heathcliff এই উপন্যাসের কেন্দ্রীয় চরিত্র।  কাহিনীতে দেখা যায়, Heathcliff  একজন এতিম বালক। অন্যের আশ্রয়ে থাকে। পরবর্তীতে আশ্রয়দাতার কন্যা  Catherine Earnshaw এর সাথে তার মনের মিলন ঘটে, দুইজন দুইজনকে ভালোবেসে ফেলে। 
- কিন্তু Catherine প্রতিশ্রুতি ভঙ্গ করে অন্যত্র বিয়ে করলে Heathcliff এর জগৎ এলোমেলো হয়ে যায় । পরে, Catherine এর ভাই এর Hindley সাথেও বিরোধে জড়ায় Heathcliff। Hindley অবশ্য শুরু থেকেই Heathcliff এর সাথে দূর্ব্যবহার করতো। 
- এরপর Heathcliff নিরুদ্দেশ হয়ে যায়। যখন ফিরে আসে তখন সে অঢেল অর্থ বিত্তের মালিক। সে তার মালিকের বাড়ী Wuthering Heights কিনে নেয়। প্রেমিকা Catherine এর ননদের সাথে প্রেমের অভিনয় করে এবং সম্পত্তির লোভে তাকে বিয়েও করে। যদিও বিয়েটা এক সময় ভেঙ্গে যায়।
- এরপর Catherine মারা যায়। তার ভাই Hindley ও মারা যায়। কিন্তু তাদের সন্তানরা ধীরে ধীরে বড় হতে থাকে। Heathcliff এর সন্তানও এদের সাথে যোগ দেয়।  এভাবে কাহিনী এক প্রজন্ম থেকে পরের প্রজন্মের মাঝে এগিয়ে চলে।

• Emily Bronte: 
- Charlotte Bronte এর ছোট বোন।
