Question: A alone can do a work of Tk. 1200 in 6 days. By engaging an assistant, the work is completed in just 4 days. The share the assistant would receive is - 

Solution: 
A alone can do the work in 6 days
in 1 day,
A can do 1/6 
both can do 1/4
the assistant can do (1/4) - (1/6)
= (3 - 2)/12
= 1/12

So
A : Assistant = 1/6 : 1/12 = 2 : 1

Hence, the share of the assistant is (1200 × 1/3)
= 400 Tk.

Question: In an army camp there was food for 150 soldiers for 30 days. But after 10 days 50 soldiers left the army. The rest of the food will last for -

Solution: 
১০ দিন পর, ১৫০ জনের ২০ দিনের খাবার ছিল।
৫০ জন কমে যাওয়ায় এখন সৈনিক = ১৫০ -৫০ = ১০০ জন।

তাহলে, 
১৫০ জনের খাবার আছে ২০ দিনের
১ জনের আছে (২০ × ১৫০) দিনের
১০০ জনের আছে (৩০০০/১০০) দিনের
= ৩০ দিনের

Shortcut: 
ধরি, বাকি খাবারে ১০০ জনের x দিন চলবে।
150 : 100 = x : 20
100x = 3000
x = 30 days

Question: Working 5 hours a day, A can complete a work in 8 days and working 6 hours a day, B can complete the same work in 10 days. Working 8 hours a day, they can jointly complete the work in - 

Solution: 
Working 5 hours a day, for 8 days, A can finish the work in = (5 × 8) = 40 hours
Working 6 hours a day, for 10 days, B can finish the work in = (6 × 10) = 60 hours

both together can do in one hour = 1/40 + 1/60
= (3 + 2)/120
= 5/120
= 1/24

so, it will take them 24 hours to do the work.

hence, working 8 hours a day, they need = 24/8 = 3 days

Question: If a quarter kg of potato costs 25 Tk. How much Tk. will 200 gm cost?

Solution: 
a quarter of kg means 250gm

so, 
250gm costs 25 Tk.
∴200gm costa (200 × 25)/250 Tk.
= 20 Tk.

Question: If 10 men can do a piece of work in 12 days, the time taken by 12 men to do the same piece of work will be - 

Solution: 
from 10 men can do a piece of work in 12 days, we get - 
M1 = 10
D1 = 12

the time taken by 12 men to do the same piece of work will be
M2 =12
D2 =?

we know that,
M1 × D1 = M2 × D2
D2 = (10 × 12)/12
= 10 days

Question: Rasel started a project where the work ratio of a day is twice the previous day. If the work is fully finished in 20 days, how many days it took to finish 1/4th of the work?

Solution: 
প্রতিদিনের কাজ পূর্বের দিনের দ্বিগুণ হয়।

২০ দিনে যদি সম্পূর্ণ শেষ হয় তাহলে,
১৯ দিনে শেষ হবে ১/২ কাজ
১৮ দিনে শেষ হবে (১/২)/২ বা, ১/৪ কাজ 

shortcut: 
১ অংশ কাজ হয় ২০ দিনে,
১/৪ অংশ বা ১/২^২ অংশ কাজ হয় = (২০ - ২) দিনে = ১৮ দিনে।
যত অংশ দেয়া থাকবে তার হরকে ২ এর ভিত্তি আকারে প্রকাশ করে ২ এর সূচককে মোট দিন থেকে বাদ দিয়ে দিন বের করতে হবে।

একই ভাবে যদি ১/১৬ অংশ বা ১/২^৪ অংশ কাজ হবে = (২০ -৪) = ১৬ দিনে।

Question: If 10 men or 20 boys can make 100 footballs in 10 days, then how many footballs will be made by 8 men and 4 boys in 20 days?

Solution:
here, 
10 men = 20 boys
8 men = (2 × 8) boys
= 16 boys
if 20 boys can make 100 footballs in 10 days,

8 men and 4 boys or, (16 + 4) = 20 boys can make in 20 days = (100 × 2) = 200 footballs

Question: A and B can complete a piece of work in 15 days and 10 days respectively. They got a contract to complete the work for Tk. 75000. The share of B in the contracted money will be:

Solution: 
Ratio of number of days taken by A and B to complete the work = 15 : 10 = 3 : 2
∴ Ratio of efficiency of A and B = 2 : 3

Let their share is in the ratio of 2x and 3x
Now,
2x + 3x = 75000
⇒ 5x = 75000
∴ x = 15000

∴ Share of B = 3x
= 15000 × 3
= 45000 Taka

Question: If A and B can complete a piece of work together in 10 days and B alone in 20 days, in how many days can A alone complete the work?

solution: 
A and B complete a work in = 10 days
One day's work of (A + B) = 1/10

B complete the work in = 20 days;
One day's work of B = 1/20

Then, A's one day's work = 1/10 - 1/20
= 1/20

so, A can do the work alone in 20 days.

Question: An industrial loom weaves 15 centimetres of cloth every second. Approximately, how many seconds will it take for the loom to weave 45 metres of cloth?

Solution:
in one second the loom waves = 15 centimetres = 0.15 metres

so, the time to loom 45 metres is = (45/0.15) seconds
= 300 seconds
= 300/60 minutes
= 5 minutes

Question: 8 boys can finish a work in 8 days working 8 hours a day. How many hours should 4 boys have to work a day to finish the work in 8 days?

Solution: 
প্রথম অংশ থেকে পাই, ৮ জন বালক একটি কাজ ৮ দিনে শেষ করতে পারে দৈনিক ৮ ঘণ্টা কাজ করে।
এখানে, 
M₁ = 8
D₁ = 8
H₁ = 8
W₁ = 1

দ্বিতীয় অংশ থেকে পাই, ৪ জন বালক ৮ দিনে একই কাজ শেষ করতে দৈনিক কতক্ষণ কাজ করতে হবে?
এখানে, 
M₂ = 4
D₂ = 8
W₂ = 1
H₂ = ?

আমরা জানি,
M₁ × W₂ × D₁ × H₁ = M₂ × W₁ × D₂ × H₂
H₂ = (M₁ × W₂ × D₁ × H₁) / (M₂ × W₁ × D₂)
= (8 × 1 × 8 × 8) / (4 × 1 × 8)
= 16 hours

Question: A canteen requires 651 liters of water for a week. Totally, how many liters will it require for the months of December, January, February?

Solution: 

একদিনে পানি লাগে = 651/7 = 93 লিটার

ডিসেম্বর, জানুয়ারি, ফেব্রুয়ারি তে মোট দিন = (31 + 31 + 28) = 90 দিন।

মোট পানি লাগবে = (90 × 93) = 8370 লিটার

Question: If 10 persons can do a job in 20 days, then 20 persons with twice the efficiency can do the same job in - 

Solution: 
10 persons in one day can do = 1/20
20 persons in one day can do = 2 × 1/20 = 1/10

with double efficiency, in one day they can do = 2 × 1/10 = 1/5

so, the work will be finished in just 5 days 

Question: There is food for 40 members for 30 days. How many days can 30 members survive with the same food?

Solution: 
40 members have food for 30 days
1 member have food for (30 × 40) days
30 members have food for (30 × 40)/30 days
= 40 days

Question: If one pipe A can fill a tank in 20 minutes, then 5 pipes, each of 20% efficiency of A, can fill the tank in - 

Solution: 
ধরি, 
A পাইপের ইফিসিয়েন্সি = ১০০%
৫ টি পাইপের প্রতিটির ইফিসিয়েন্সি = ১০০%/৫ = ২০%

তাহলে, ৫ টি পাইপের মোট ইফিসিয়েন্সি = ২০% × ৫ = ১০০%

তাহলে, ৫ টি পাইপ এর সমষ্টিগত ইফিসিয়েন্সি A পাইপের সমান।
তাহলে ৫ টি পাইপ একত্রে ২০ মিনিটেই টাঙ্কটি পূর্ণ করতে পারবে।

Question: A complete 1/8 of a work in one day. B with double efficiency can do the full work in - 

Solution:
যেহেতু B এর দক্ষতা A এর দ্বিগুণ তাই B একদিনে A এর চেয়ে দ্বিগুণ কাজ করবে।
∴ B একদিনে করবে = ২ × ১/৮ = ১/৪ অংশ

সম্পূর্ণ কাজ করবে = ৪ দিনে

Question: Rakib and Sakib aimed to finish a job in 8 days.  But Rakib remains ideal for 8 days then started to work and they both finished the rest of the job in 4 days. Sakib alone can do it in - 

Solution: 
দুইজন ৮ দিনে করে ১ অংশ
৪ দিনে করে ১/২ অংশ।

তাহলে বাকি ১/২ কাজ সাকিব একা ৮ দিনে করে।
তাহলে সম্পূর্ণ কাজ শেষ করতে সময় লাগবে (৮ × ২) = ১৬ দিনে।

Question: A group of men decided to do a job in 3 days. But since 30 men dropped out every day, the job completed at the end of the 5th day. How many men were there at the beginning?

solution: 
ধরি,
শুরুতে লোক ছিলো = x

প্রশ্নমতে,
3x = x + (x - 30) + (x - 60) + (x - 90) + (x - 120)
3x = 5x - 300
2x = 300
x = 150

∴ শুরুতে ১৫০ জন লোক ছিল।

Question: A assigns B to do a task in 3 days. After 3 days A finds that 3/5 of the work has been done. How many days will B take to complete the rest of the work?

Solution: 
B ৩/৫ অংশ কাজ করে ৩ দিনে।
সম্পূর্ণ কাজ করে ৩/(৩/৫) দিনে
= ৫ দিনে।

অর্থাৎ B এর সম্পূর্ণ কাজ শেষ করতে আরো (৫ - ৩) বা, ২ দিন লাগবে।

Question: If 5 workers can collect 60 kg wheat in 3 days, how many kilograms of wheat will 8 workers collect in 5 days?

Solution: 
৫ জন লোক ৩ দিনে গম সংগ্রহ করতে পারে ৬০ কেজি
১ জন লোক ১ দিনে গম সংগ্রহ করতে পারে ৬০/(৫ × ৩) কেজি
৮ জন লোক ৫ দিনে গম সংগ্রহ করতে পারে (৬০ × ৮ × ৫)/(৫ × ৩) কেজি
= ১৬০ কেজি

Question: An employee pays Tk.100 for each day a worker and forfeits Tk.20 for each day he idle. At the end of 50 days, if the worker got Tk.2600, for how many days did the worker remain idle?

Solution: 
প্রতিদিন উপস্থিত থাকার জন্য পায় ১০০ টাকা এবং একদিন অনুপস্থিত থাকলে জরিমানা হয় ২০ টাকা।

যদি ৫০ দিন উপস্থিত থাকত তাহলে মোট পেত = ৫০ × ১০০ = ৫০০০ টাকা
তাহলে, কম পায় = ৫০০০ - ২৬০০ = ২৪০০ টাকা

একদিন অনুপস্থিত থাকলে মোট ক্ষতি হয় = ১০০ + ২০ = ১২০ টাকা

∴ মোট অনুপস্থিত ছিল = ২৪০০/১২০ = ২০ দিন

Question: 30 men are engaged to a work by a contractor for 6 days. They work for 4 days but due to some reasons, only 50% of the work will be completed. How many more men should be engaged to work to complete the work in a given period of time?

Solution: 
১/২ অংশ কাজ ৪ দিনে করে ৩০ জন 
∴ ১/২ অংশ কাজ ১ দিনে করে ৩০ × ৪ জন 
∴ ১/২ অংশ কাজ ২ দিনে করে (৩০ × ৪)/২ জন
= ৬০ জন 

অতিরিক্ত  লোক লাগবে ৬০ - ৩০ জন
= ৩০ জন 

Question: A can do a work in 15 days and B in 20 days. If they work on it together for 4 days, then the fraction of the work that is left is -

Solution:
একদিনে, 
A করে 1/15 অংশ
B করে 1/20 অংশ

মোট করে = 1/15 + 1/20
= 7/60

চারদিনে মোট কাজ করে = 4 × 7/60 = 28/60 = 7/15

∴ অবশিষ্ট কাজ = 1 - 7/15 = 8/15

Question: Salman and Rasel both have the same efficiency of work. If Salman finishes half of the work in 9 days. How much time will Rasel need to finish the rest of the work?

Solution: 
যেহেতু সালমান এবং রাসেল উভয়ের দক্ষতা একই, তাদের একটি কাজ করতে একই সময় লাগবে।
তাহলে রাসেলের বাকি অর্ধেক কাজ শেষ করতেও ৯ দিন লাগবে।

Question: If A and B together can complete a work in 18 days, A and C together in 12 days, and B and C together in 9 days, then B alone can do the work in - 

Solution: 
in one day, 
(A + B) do = 1/18
(A + C) do = 1/12
(B + C) do = 1/9

(A + B) + (A + C) + (B + C) = 1/18 + 1/12 + 1/9
2 (A + B + C) = 9/36 = 1/4
A + B + C = 1/8

so, B alone can do in one day = (A + B + C) - (A + C)
= 1/8 - 1/12
= 1/24

hence, it will take B to do the whole work in 24 days

Question: A carrier can carry 1.5 tons of products in 1 day from Teknaf to Tetulia. How much time will it be required to transfer 3 tons in two carriers?

Solution: 
১ টি কেরিয়ার ১.৫ টন মাল বহন করতে সময় নেয় ১ দিন
২ টি কেরিয়ার ৩ টন মাল বহন করতে সময় নেয় = (১.৫ × ২)/৩ = ১ দিন

Question: Soma did 3/5 of a work in 9 days. The rest of the work is done in - 

Solution: 
3/5 of a work is done within 9 days.
so, the total work is done in (9 × 5)/3 = 15 days.

hence, rest of the work is done in (15 - 9) or, 6 days

Question: A town with a population of 4000 had food packets for 30 days. After 10 days 1000 more people are added. How long will the food packets last now?

Solution: 
Town with a population of 4000 had food packets for 30 days.
∴ Total food packets = 4000 × 30 = 120000

Other 1000 people joined after 10 days.

Food packet consumed in first 10 days = 4000 × 10 = 40000.
∴ Remaining food packets = 120000 – 40000 = 80000

Now 1000 people more are added
∴ Total people = 4000 + 1000 = 5000.

Now, remaining food packets will be divided among 5000 people.

∴ No. of days food will last = Remaining food packets/No. of people

⇒ No. of days food will last = 80000/5000
⇒ No. of days food will last = 16
