♦ Beowulf:
- এটি মূলত একটি Heroic poem.
- এটি Old English Literature এর সর্বোচ্চ অর্জন হিসেবে বিবেচিত।
- এটি  Earliest European vernacular epic হিসেবেও পরিচিত।

- যেহেতু এই epic টি খুবই পুরোনো তাই এর লেখক সম্পর্কে কোন ধারণা করা যায়নি।
- এটি মোট দুই ভাগে বিভক্ত।
- এই epic এর hero হলো Beowulf.
- নায়ক Beowulf এর তিনটি দুঃসাহসিক অভিযানকে কেন্দ্র করে এর কাহিনীটি এগিয়ে চলে।

- ইংরেজী সাহিত্যের প্রথম দীর্ঘ কবিতা এটি।
- এর মোট পংক্তি সংখ্যা ৩০০০।

- ডেনমার্ক ও দক্ষিণ সুইডেন হচ্ছে এই ঘটনার কেন্দ্রবিন্দু।
- এই কবিতার Scandinavian hero, Beowulf এর নাম অনুসারে এই কবিতার নামকরণ করা হয়।

♦ Caedmon:
- তিনি ছিলেন প্রথম ইংরেজ খ্রিস্টান কবি।
- তাকে Father of English Sacred song বলা হয়।
- His story is known from Bede’s Ecclesiastical History of the English People.
- He is the writer of Paraphrase.

- এই যুগটি Queen Victoria র নামে নামকরণ করা হয়।
- Queen Victoria যদিও 1837 সালে ক্ষমতায় আসে কিন্তু এই যুগটির সূচনা হয় 1832 সালে।
- এর কারণ হলো 1832 সাল থেকেই সাহিত্যিক বৈশিষ্ট্যে আমুল পরিবর্তন লক্ষ্য করা যায়।
- Fabian Society was founded in 1883 to avoid violence in class-struggle.
- G.B. Shaw was one of the members of the Fabian Society.

• Victorian period মোট 2টি সময়কালে বিভক্ত।
যেমন:

♦ Neoclassical period: 1660-1785
- এই যুগটিকে Pseudo-classical ও বলা হয়।
- They imitated the ancient Greek and Roman literary work but lacked the originality of the writers of that age.

• এই যুগটি 3টি ছোট যুগে বিভক্ত।
যেমন:
1. The Restoration period: 1660-1700
2. The Augustan period/ The Age of Pope: 1700-1745
3. The Age of Sensibility or The Age of Johnson: 1745-1785

• The Augustan period/ The Age of Pope:
- ইংরেজি সাহিত্যে ১৭০০ থেকে ১৭৪৫ সাল পর্যন্ত সময়কাল The Augustan Age নামে পরিচিত।
- এটি আলেকজান্ডার পপ এর সময়কাল হওয়ায় একে The Age of Pope নামেও ডাকা হয়। 

♦ The Faerie Queene: 
- 1590 সালে এর প্রথম installment টি প্রকাশিত হয়। 
- এটি একটি religious-moral-political allegory.
- এই মহাকাব্যের নায়ক Red Cross Knight.
- এর নায়িকা Una.
- এ মহাকাব্যের মূল বিষয়বস্তু হলো Patriotism.
- একে epic poem ও বলা হয়। 

• Edmund Spenser:
- তিনি একজন English poet.
- তার long allegorical poem, 'The Faerie Queene' is one of the greatest in the English literature.

- He is from the Elizabethan period.

- His Astrophel and Stella considered the finest Elizabethan sonnet cycle.
- Sidney helped to popularize Italian poetic forms such as the sonnet and the villanelle, making them some of the most popular and enduring forms in English poetry.

♦ To His Coy Mistress:
- এটি একটি Metaphysical poem.
- এই কবিতাটি ছিল ৪৬ লাইনের।
- এই কবিতাটি ১৬৮১ সালে প্রকাশিত হয়েছিল।
- The poem treats the conventional theme of the conflict between love and time in a witty and ironic manner.
-The poet opens by telling his mistress that, given all the time in the world, he would spend hundreds of years praising each part of her body, while she could spend hundreds of years refusing his advances.

• Andrew Marvell:
- তিনি Jacobean period এর একজন বিখ্যাত কবি।
- তিনি একজন বিখ্যাত Metaphysical Poet.

♦ The Renaissance Period:
- 1500 থেকে 1660 পর্যন্ত সময়কালকে ইংরেজী সাহিত্যে The Renaissance Period হিসেবে ধরা হয়ে থাকে।
- যদিও Renaissance যুগের সূচনা হয় 1453 সালে কিন্তু ইংরেজী সাহিত্যে এর প্রভাব পরে 1500 এর পর থেকে।
- This period is called Renaissance because Renaissance spirit was the main driving force that characterized the literature of that time.

• Renaissance Period মোট 4টি ছোট সময়কালে বিভক্ত।

- Jacobean age: 1603-1625

- এটি Robert Herrick রচিত একটি কবিতা।
