বাংলায় প্রবাদ ও প্রবচন প্রায় সমার্থক শব্দ হলেও এ দুয়ের মধ্যে সূক্ষ্ম পার্থক্য রয়েছে।
- প্রবাদ অজ্ঞাত-পরিচয় সাধারণ মানুষের লোকপরম্পরাগত সৃষ্টি। সেগুলো জনশ্রুতি হিসেবে চলে এসেছে।
