- This is an example of Paradox.

• Paradox (কূটাভাস; পরস্পরবিরোধী সত্য):
- A paradox is a statement that contradicts itself, or that must be both true and untrue at the same time.
- A situation or statement that seems impossible or is difficult to understand because it contains two opposite facts or characteristics.
- অর্থাৎ, যে উক্তি আপাতদৃষ্টিতে স্ববিরোধী মনে হলেও সত্যবর্জিত নয়; যা আপাতদৃষ্টিতে স্ববিরোধী মনে হলেও গভীর অর্থ বহন করে।
- যেমন: I must be cruel only to be kind. (Hamlet, Shakespeare)
- যেখানে surface meaning কিংবা আপাত দৃষ্টিতে লাইনটির অর্থ contradictory.

• এর আরেকটি চমৎকার উদাহরণ হচ্ছে -'Sweet are the uses of adversity'
- যেখানে surface meaning কিংবা আপাত দৃষ্টিতে লাইনটির অর্থ contradictory মনে হয় যে adversity is bitter.
- কিন্তু এর deeper meaning এ বোঝা যায় যে adversity carries within itself the sweetness of achievement.

- The world will be saved by failure.
- Cowards die many times before their deaths.
- The world will be saved by failure.

• Other options:
ক) Hyperbole (অতিশয়োক্তি)
- An exaggerated statement or an extreme overstatement.
- অতিশয়োক্তি; অত্যুক্তি; অতিরঞ্জন।
- যেমন: "Ten thousand saw I at a glance," (Wordsworth: Daffodils).

খ) Metaphor (রূপকালংকার)
- A metaphor is an implicit comparison between two different things.
- যখন কোনো বাক্যে দুটি ভিন্ন জিনিসের মাঝে পরোক্ষভাবে বা রূপকার্থে তুলনা করা হয় তাকে Metaphor বলা হয়।
- সাধারণত Metaphor দ্বারা এমন দুইটি জিনিসের মধ্যে তুলনা দেওয়া হয় যারা একই রকম বা সদৃশ নয় কিন্তু তাদের মধ্যে কিছু সাধারণ মিল থাকে।
- যেমন:
- Revenge is a wild justice.
- Life is but a walking shadow.

ঘ) Antithesis (পরস্পরবিরোধী ভাবধারার সন্নিবেশ; বিরোধালংকার)
- “Antithesis” literally means “opposite” – it is usually the opposite of a statement, concept, or idea.
- এমন একটি অলংকার, যেখানে পরস্পর বিপরীত অর্থবোধক শব্দ বা ভাব একসঙ্গে ব্যবহৃত হয়, যা একটি নাটকীয় বৈপরীত্য সৃষ্টি করে।
- যেমন: "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times."
- এখানে "best times" এবং "worst times" -এর মাধ্যমে পরস্পর বিরোধী ভাব প্রকাশ করা হয়েছে, যা Antithesis-এর প্রধান বৈশিষ্ট্য।
